Things have changed a little – err- a lot – in my house since the divorce. Most of them are positive changes that the girls and I are really benefiting from. But some are not so great… like giving up holidays to the other parent. This year is my Easter but I only get the girls for the day. So there is NO WAY I am spending any of that precious day in my kitchen slaving over a ton of food. But, I still want to give them as traditional an Easter dinner as I can. Especially since I won’t have time to get them home to my family for the day. In steps HoneyBaked Ham and their AMAZING Ham, sides and even desserts!
For those who do now know what a HoneyBaked Ham is… come walk with me. I knew what it was but I had NO IDEA what was, literally, in store for me! My youngest daughter and I headed to a HoneyBaked Ham location on Breck Road in Houston this week and our eyes were opened to all they have to offer. By the time we left we had one of their famous hams, three sides, rolls, dessert and two mixes to make some breads at home. And all totally affordable! Especially for the amount of food that we walked out with.
I am getting a little ahead of myself though so let me back up. Why did I head over to a HoneyBaked Ham store so far before Easter? Well… ham is an everyday dish, right? Plus the girls and I have been going non stop and I needed something easy I could put on the table in many different ways that I knew my kids would eat. My little one proved I made a good choice when we got home and she ate 4 pieces of ham right in front of me!
Yes!! By the way. You can bring the ham home, put it on your counter, bring it to room temperature and it is ready to go. All together now— NO HOT STOVES! I mean, you can heat it if you want and they give you instructions on request should you need to heat it up but… um… why? One of the great benefits of this ham is the lack of prep time. Even I, a challenged cook, can open the foil and serve!
Add to that my ability to take a side from the freezer or fridge, stick it in the microwave and serve and my kids will get an amazing meal that will not take mommy all day to make!
My choices while in store were the Macaroni and Cheese, Broccoli and Rice Casserole and the Sweet Potato Souffle. Now… I am not a ‘play favorites’ kind of girl but um… holy amazing Sweet Potato Souffle! I do not know how they make this but it is ah-ma-zing! Did I say it was amazing? OK… just checking!
I also picked up some of their sweet bread – hello ham sandwiches! – and then strolled over to their dessert cabinet where Megan chose Carrot Cake! We added some Apple and Pumpkin Bread mix to make at home (50% off thank you – less then $10 for BOTH) and headed out happy campers with a car full of food but a wallet still in tact.
When it was time to make dinner for my girls, I was done in less than 20 minutes, we were all at the table and laughing and talking and enjoying the awesome food in front of us. THIS… this is what a mom wants. Time to relax and enjoy her time with her kids and family. She does not want to spend half the day in the kitchen and the other half cleaning up!
