#RedKettleReason #GivingSpreeSweeps The sound is as familiar as a favorite Christmas carol. The chime of the ringing bell asking shoppers and walkers-by to put a little something in the Red Kettle so The Salvation Army can help others during the holiday season! I love the sound and I always put a little in, smile at the jolly bell ringer and feel like I am helping in some small way. I know the generosity of strangers when you have nothing. As a young girl, before my adoption at 8, there were no presents for any reason unless they were handed over by people who were bringing donations to us. So anything I can do at all to help families and children who were in my shoes is very, very important to me! This year, however, you can have an even greater impact – just by sharing a #RedKettleReason on video describing why you give back to the Red Kettles during the holidays! That video could win you a trip to New York City to participate in a televised shopping spree (called a Salvation Army Giving Spree!) to grab toys and necessities for kids in need in your local community! The winner then gets to fly all those gifts back to their hometown to help distribute them.
To enter for a chance to win The Salvation Army Giving Spree, share a video to Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, or Vimeo describing your #RedKettleReason, why your community deserves to win, and why you support The Salvation Army. Then, tweet a link that video with the hashtags #RedKettleReason and #GivingSpreeSweeps. Full rules and how to enter are available at redkettlereason.org
Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, donations collected in the Red Kettle help feed the homeless, put roofs over their heads and provide gifts for children who simply don’t have any. We all know that. But did you also know that The Salvation Army helps with support and counseling for domestic violence victims, substance abuse issues, and military veterans who come back needing a helping hand? I did not know how wide reaching their services were and now that I do, I am even more motivated to do what I can!
This is the second year The Salvation Army has run the #RedKettleReason campaign and the first for the The Salvation Army Giving Spree contest. I, for one, can’t wait to see all the #RedKettleReason videos people share this year. What a wonderful way to remember the reason for the season! So, get your videos up on Twitter, donate to the Red Kettles you see and know that you are making a difference to people everywhere who need it!

My reason is that I’m thankful our family is fortunate to have a home, food, and gifts at Christmas, and I like to give back to those who aren’t as fortunate.

My #redbucketreason is my children. We have received Christmas meal and toys from the Salvation Army in the past. They are a huge help to our community. We don’t usually have much to put in the bucket but my boys ask me for change every time we see a bell ringer. They have such kind loving hearts and that is why I give back.

my #redkettlereason is because growing up we were poor and got gifts and food from others and I am beyond grateful for that. no child should have to suffer especially at this time of the year. the smallest token is so appreciated by a child. just to see a child smile is a reason beyond any other.
My #RedKettleReason is everyone should have a nice holiday. We donate to local shelters and organizations and also to pet shelters.

My #RedBucketReason is to help the homeless, foster kids and the less fortunate.I’m not rich by any means. I do have a roof over my head ,clothes to wear, and food to eat. When I was a single mom the Salvation Army helped me every year when my daughter was little. They do so many good things for people. It’s pretty amazing. It’s nice to give back and pay it forward. Thank you for the chance :)
My #RedKettleReason is because I feel for those that have nothing: no new clothing, not enough food, not enough money, so I give to The Salvation Army, other charities, and locally to food banks, to do what I can to try and alleviate some of this hardship.

I give to the red kettle every year because many years ago I ate at a Salvation Army soup kitchen.
During the year I go around to garage sales and find toys, dolls, jackets etc. cheap. The 1st of December we go around and donate them. This is how we give for Christmas. On top of this I am alwaays thankful to have my family over for the holiday. Happy Holidays!

My #RedKettleReason is simply giving back. Having worked at a V.A. hospital in the past, I saw first-hand the help provided to veterans by the Salvation Army, especially at Christmastime. I have also seen firsthand how they help those who need drug rehabilitation and the homeless. Wonderful organization to which I freely give at every single kettle I pass.

#RedKettleReason for me is that being a community impact director for 9 years now for a local non profit has helped me to see exactly how important support, resources, awareness, help, and kindness there is out there. It’s amazing to me to see how something as simple as a chat, hug, blanket, and a snack can mean so much more to others. I never underestimate the littlest good deed. It may be that good deed that someone comes back later to thank you for in a much greater way.
My #RedKettleReason is helping families in my community who are less fortunate.
My uncle is my #RedKettleReason. The Salvation Army helped him straighten out his life, and I’m ever grateful to them for giving him dignity and peace for the last years of his life. I’m glad to see those Red Kettles!

My #Redkettlereason is the community in which I live is going through a horrible heroin epidemic. Because of this many families have been torn apart by substance abuse. We have more children waiting for foster care than ever before. Those babies born into these unfortunate circumstances won’t have much of a Christmas this year, those families and their loved ones that have been effected by the disease are struggling to pull it together every day of the year not just at Christmas. I can’t feed every family but if the spare change in my pocket can help make just one child smile, even briefly, well than That’s my #RedKettleReason
My #RedKettleReason is to donate clothes and cash
https://twitter.com/momsfocus/status/669224833020899328
#Myredkettlereason goes out to all my heart sisters. I am part of a rare club- mothers with pregnancy induced heart failure, and a condition called peripartum cardiomyopathy. So many children are robbed of their moms because of this condition. Others are faced with steep medical bills, and unable to work. So, when I give, I think of all those moms who are desperate to give a little happiness to their kiddos this Christmas.
My #RedKettleReason is to help victims of disasters. I hardly ever have money to give, but if I do, this is my reason.

First of all, I just loved reading your story, even though it is so sad! I live in Silicon Valley where people struggle everyday to make ends meet. If you are not rich, the you are literally the working poor out here. I see many homeless, lots of people living in one bedroom homes, and eating a bad diet because food with not much nutritional value is cheaper than good food. We our selves are going to be forced to leave soon also. I’m still thankful because we still have a roof over our heads and are a lot more fortunate than others.
We’ve always tried to help out others when we can but unfortuently this year we aren’t able to since we’re barely getting by. #RedKettleReason
