Mother’s Day, for me, has changed in its meaning over the years. It wasn’t until I was adopted that I had any concept of Mother’s Day. I remember pancakes for mom in the morning, lunch out on a day full of sunshine and allowing mom to relax the rest of the day. As the years have passed and I have become a single mom of three amazing daughters myself, the meaning of the day has changed once again. The meaning is so much more about time with my girls and less about flowers and breakfast in bed. The picture- perfect Mother’s Day, to me, is feeling and looking my best as my kids and I enjoy the day away with laughter and fun. No gifts are needed, though the handmade ones are the best, and nothing but love is shared all day long.

It dawned on me about seven month ago that I really needed to take better care of me. I hit the gym, falling head over heels in love with CrossFit and pulled out my dusty make-up case. I took some time to really survey the image I was putting out into the world and how it was making me feel. I’ll be honest, I didn’t like it. So I headed to the store to discover what was new out there to make me the best me with as little effort as possible – remember, I am a single mom with a busy business, after all. I added new make-up, Garnier® Whole Blends™ hair care and even some new clothes to motivate me to keep up the working out!
Since that day, I have made a real effort to make myself more presentable, showing off the hard work I have put into taking care of me from the inside out. Making my Mother’s Day picture-perfect is just an exercise in putting that best me out there to celebrate and wonderful job of being ‘mom’!
Creating the picture-perfect Mother’s Day, for me, means just waking up to see the smiling faces of the children I have. It also includes taking the time to look my best and celebrate the efforts I have put into making myself healthier, more beautiful and more confident as a woman. I will get up, wash my hair with Garnier® Whole Blends™ Smoothing Hair Care with Coconut Oil and Cocoa Butter extracts so that I don’t need to worry about the natural curl that will increase as the humid, Texas weather attacks it, and wear something that makes me feel pretty.
I will relish in little arms around my neck, hide and seek with my kids and the simple things that make us all feel great joy! Because the picture-perfect Mother’s Day is all about little kisses, sweet smiles and the reminder that you, as a mom and woman, are most beautiful when you are just there.
Now for a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card, tell me, how will you celebrate Mother’s Day this year?

Unfortunately, I will spend Mother’s Day alone. I lost my real mom 8 years ago to cancer. And I don’t have biological children, I have 3 step sons that I helped my husband raise. But they spend Mother’s Day with their biological mom. Mother’s Day is a very hard day for me. I honor my mom by making a special dinner that she used to make, or by doing something she loved to do like picking lilacs or watching the ballet. I lost a baby 13 years ago, so I was never fortunate enough to have children of my own.
Yet I’m not sad. I have wonderful “Mother figures” in my life and some amazing friends. I have my big sister who always took care of me like a mom, and my maternal grandmother who is the biggest blessing. I also get calls and cards from my “kids”, they never forget me.
So even though I’ll be with my husband on Mother’s Day, I still have so much to be thankful for. I miss my mom every day, and I will never know the joy of having my own child, but I have blessings, and that’s what it’s really all about.
(((HUGS))) I am sorry that it will be a sad day for you! Please know that I will be thinking of you…
I’m with you! I lost my mom two years ago and Mother’s Day is a reminder of how much I still miss her. She also loved lilacs and I planted 2 in her memory.
I will celebrate Mother’s Day this year by talking to my mom over the phone since she is a long distance away. Thanks for the giveaway!

My mother is now in a nursing home. I hope I can make the trip to go see her for Mother’s day and attend the special banquet that evening.
A nice brunch and a walk on the walkway over the Hudson.
We are taking my mother-in-law out for a nice brunch. Then my sons and grandchildren are coming to my house for a dinner. I will be with all my loved ones on Mother’s Day and I can’t ask for more than that.
I went to a Catholic school when I was growing up, and my 4th grade teacher Sister Catherine was my favorite teacher because she was so positive and helped me with my school work and taught me so much! She spent hours on her own time teaching me arithmetic and writing. She was such an inspiration to me!
I answered the question wrong. Sorry! I am spending Mother’s Day with my son and daughter and My mom and we are going out to dinner and spending the day together. I will be getting a nice card for my Mom and getting her flowers. My son and daughter also have something special for me on Mother’s Day. It will be a special day!

This year I will celebrate Mother’s Day a couple of times. On Friday night all the mom’s/ladies in my family are going to dinner and then a movie. On Sunday my entire family is coming to my house for dinner. The men are cooking dinner for all of us. The best part is that my mom will have all her kids with her on Mother’s Day!
I lost my mom several years ago. She died the day before mothers day and was buried the day after…. enough said. :(

This summer will mark ten years since my dear mother died, so this Mother’s Day will be a difficult one for me. I’ll touch base with my sister and brother and share some memories of happy Mother’s Days when we were kids, and I’ll spend some private time remembering Mom and the joy she brought me.

Thank you, and Happy Mother’s Day!
I will have lunch with my husband and children and visit my grandmother. Unfortunately my mon lives in another state and I won’t be able to spend it with her, but I call her first thing in the morning.
Good for you for making yourself a priority! My sister and I are both travelling to Mom’s to celebrate Mother’s Day weekend with her, she wants to rent a boat on the Lake Saturday and brunch on Sunday.
My own mother passed about ten years ago (I miss her terribly – and since her birthday was also in May and we used to celebrate it along with Mother’s Day, it’s hard). I have three grown daughters, only the middle one who still lives at home. My oldest lives about an hour away and I’m hoping she’ll spend at least part of the day with me. My youngest has moved around and is currently in Florida, so she can’t be home. I know daughter #2 plans on taking me out for dinner and she’s waiting to hear back from daughter #1. Otherwise, I’ll spend the day with my furbabies. I lost my senior Coonhound, Suki,,two weeks ago today. We lost our senior cat in February, and my deaf hound girl, Ran, passed exactly one year before Suki. So, I will spend time with my others (three Coonhounds and two cats – all rescues). Mostly just another day.

I will be taking my mom to lunch on Mother’s Day.
Mother’s Day is one of the hardest days of the year for me. Not only am I NOT a mother, I also have no mother. Not anymore. My mother was my idol. I loved everything about her, and I wanted to be just like her when I grew up. She was a wife of 33 years to my father, and they had the most loving relationship I have ever known. She was also a daughter, one of 5, of my grandmother who just celebrated her 90th birthday. She was also a teacher for over 20 years, and she was the BEST teacher in the world! I was fortunate enough to have her as mine for 4 years, which at the time was not my idea of fun. She was such an amazing teacher, at her funeral, so many of her old students came that there wasn’t enough room in the church for everyone. So they stood in the aisles. They wouldn’t have missed it for anything. She had a way to reach the students that were deemed “unreachable” by other teachers and administrators. She could connect with them, and she helped them see their true potential. When she first got diagnosed with breast cancer, I was only 15. I had a VERY hard time accepting it, and I did everything I could to numb myself from the pain. Here my mom is dying of cancer, and she is more worried about ME! If only I had a time machine. As time passed, her cancer mastastisized into her bones and eventually her liver and her lungs. I will never forget the day I received the phone call from my dad telling me it was time. This was the call I had been dreading for years. It was really happening. My sister and I drove 4 hours to get home in the pouring rain, as if the angels in Heaven were crying about the news. Once we got home, my mother was already in the hospital, and she had been placed in a morphine induced coma because the pain was so excruciating. The last thing she ever said was when she told my little brother, ” I love you sweetheart,” My mother never spoke another word. I sat on her bed and cried and told her how sorry I was for acting so horrible when she first got sick. I covered her up in her favorite blanket I bought her one Mother’s Day with our special poem, “Footprints,” on the front. The nurses at the hospital were so kind, they let us have a room across the hall from her. Her doctor told my father after 4 days, he had never seen anyone fight so hard at the end. He said her heartbeat was as strong as an ox. If only the rest of her body could have been so lucky. I went in her room, and I laid in the bed with her. I cried and cried, and finally I told her it was okay for her to let go. I told her she didn’t have to worry about me. I would take care of Dad and my little brother and my acting out days were long over. I told her she didn’t have to hurt anymore. I told her she could stop fighting and let go. I kissed her on the forehead and told her I would see her again, one day, but not yet. We all went home to get cleaned up and eat, and that’s when I saw my father pull up into the driveway. He was crying so hard, he was shaking. He was punching the steering wheel and screaming. Then, he got out of the car, pulled himself together and came inside. “She’s gone,” were the only words that could escape his mouth. Everything after that, the wake, the funeral, the relatives and other friends and family, was like I was on autopilot. I couldn’t think or I would start crying. I was in shock, truth be told because even the worst times when she was sick, she was still THERE. Now, she was just gone. That was 10 years ago, and my life has changed so much. I met the man of my dreams and got married. My mom was right, as usual, and he was indeed older. We just celebrated our 8 year anniversary on April 26th. He brings so much joy to my life, without him, I would have been buried next to my mother not long after her death. We both decided not to have children. He had a daughter from a previous relationship, and I just couldn’t stand the thought of having my child go through what I went through if I ever got sick. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. Every year on Mother’s Day, I go out to my mom’s grave and play “Yesterday,” by the Beatles, her favorite band, bring her yellow tulips because they were her favorite, and I just visit with her. The first few years I just cried and didn’t get out of bed. The ONLY thing that helps with grief and the passing of a loved one, especially one as dear as a mother, is TIME. It may sound like a cliche, but it’s true. In the beginning, you think the hurt will never stop. But one day, you wake up and you feel a little better. Then a few years go by, and you feel a lot better. After enough time has passed, you realize that she may be dead, but she’ll never be gone. My mother made me. There is a LOT of her in me, and that will live on as long as I do. So this year when we go out to her gravesite, my husband is packing a picnic. And when we play “Yesterday,” we will be dancing and thinking about tomorrow instead.
We celebrate Mother’s Day by going to church and visiting our moms. My kids always make me something special at school that they give to me too :-)
I celebrated Mother’s Day early this year and went to a flower show and out to lunch today with both my mother and daughter.

I’m spending my first mothers day as,a grandma no better feeling than raising wonderful children and watching them become parents :)
At 86 (almost 87) I have a lot of Mother’s Days to look back on and I’m happy to say that I enjoyed them all, whether celebrating them with my own mother or having my son celebrate them with me.
I’ll spend my day with my mom and visit my grandmother’s grave and leave new flowers.
I’m hoping to go out to brunch with my family, but I haven’t heard about plans from anyone.

I spent it over 10 hours away from my mom. I hate that. I did text her and send her a card and some flower seeds but, due to finances, I could not call her and could not send her anything substantial. Luckily, she understands. :-D
