The short film I just watched has no words. But the message was loud and clear. Love and friendship know no bounds. And the way you look on the outside has absolutely nothing to do with who you are on the inside. In Disney’s “Blank: A Vinylmation Love Story,” we watch characters that are very real at heart discover the strength in themselves.
Based on the popular Disney Parks Vinylmation collectible franchise, “Blank: A Vinylmation Love Story” is a 38 minute stop-motion animated film that tells the story of Blank, an unpainted Vinylmation, on an epic adventure through an original new world to find his lost soulmate.
I think most of us have seen the Vinylmation dolls at the Disney Store and online. They are adorable little dolls that are painted to be the character they are representing. But, how do they get their paint. And what if they don’t and they end up ‘blank’?
In this short film, two Vinylmation characters are blank and trying to find their way. When one tries to find the right combination of his paint, he meets another that is blank as well. The two become fast friends. Their connection and their understanding that they are meant to be leads to a sweet love story.
When they are parted unexpectedly, the male character goes on a journey to find her. Along the way learning more and more about himself in the process. Meanwhile, the girl Vinylmation is missing him and, despite making new friends as well, tries to help other blanks find their way.

With help along the way, both Blank characters find that friendship and love means more than what is seen on the outside.
The creativity and imagery in this film is amazing. Even though the characters don’t have painted faces, you can read and understand their emotion. Even though there are no words, you can hear their message.
The imagery and the intent of their piece is intelligent and beautiful. I am always truly amazed with what Disney can do and this short film is further proof that animation and story telling knows no bounds.
To celebrate the premiere, Google is also inviting fans to share frames from the film with friends and family as digital greeting cards at blankmovie.withgoogle.com. After sharing a frame, guests can unlock a second special film, “Cranes in Love,” created especially for Google users.
