Currently the girls and I are up in the hill country of Texas. Swankily enjoying a resort that has such amenities as an indoor heated pool and free putt-putt golf, we are feeling a bit spoiled. As part of my trip I got to enjoy a spa day. That meant that I had to leave my kids with my parents in this huge resort with almost no way to get in touch with them. I have a phone but my parents have a prepaid phone which they have to watch their minutes on. I needed to get something affordable and quick that my kids could use to call me if they needed me at the resort. Lucky for me, I can get great service in the hills from Walmart Family Mobile, Walmart Best Plans and their new postpaid 4G LTE service! I took the girls to Walmart on the way to the hill country and purchased the Alcatel Evolve 2 smart phone. The added benefit of an affordable phone and reliable service is that the kids can use the unlimited voice, data and text service to do all kinds of things. Once we purchased the phone and the starter kit, inserted the SIM card and charged the phone, they took photos and called their grandparents to let them know they had a phone.

Besides the obvious affordability of the phone and plan, Walmart Best Plans are a great way to add a line to my home on a budget. With three girls and each wanting and phone, a traditional contract could really cut into my monthly budget. With this plan, if my kids lose their phone or don’t use it as much as they though they would, I can cancel or temporarily suspend the plan until we are ready for it again! But what I really love though is that with the new 4G LTE postpaid service, I can know that when they need to use it, it will work. So whether they are in the hills and need to call me to see where I am or at their dads on his weekend, I know they can pick up the phone and call with reliable service.

When I had my kids I never thought of how much the little things would cost. I planned for cars, college and weddings. But with cell phones being the norm for kids as young as 8, I now have to think about the impact on my monthly bills. I did check with my regular carrier once and their ‘savings’ plan would have cost me over $60 a month more per child. I will spend less than half of that with Walmart and won’t cry buckets of tears if my kids break or lose a phone. It is perfect for a family on a budget!
