I grew up in northern WI and have seen temps in the -50’s. My guess is -35 for actually being outside in the cold. I know I had to take my nieces to school one day because they had school and it was -35 without the windchill.

The coldest temperature for me would be -22 with the windchill.

I grew up in Montana, where there are typically several days at -20 or lower during the winter.

something below zero….biking back home to my apartment in college has seen some really cold nights, not sure exactly the temperature there, but i know for sure when i was little there was a rule that we had to go outside for recess unless the wind chill was below zero and there were definitely times it was well below that.
I remember the temperature dropping to -17 degrees once when I was a kid. It’s possible that was a wind chill factor temp, but I just remember being astonished that it could even BE that cold! Fortunately, in most years the coldest temp I have to endure is around -5 or so.

The heater would be REALLY helpful. We’re using a kerosene heater because we have old house syndrome-it costs $700/month to heat. No I’m not exaggerating.
