A month ago, I told you the primary reason that I wanted my kids to have a cell phone. Despite their very young ages – 7, 6 and 4 – I felt that they needed a direct line to their dad and a line to me when they were at his house. I went to Walmart, picked up an Alcatel 606A and signed up for the super affordable Walmart Family Mobile package with the Unlimited Plan cell for text and calling only.
So far.. this was a very good decision. No longer do I have to relinquish my phone to the kids. I no longer have to see my ex-husband’s name pop up on my caller ID and I no longer have to chase the kids down to see if they want to talk to him. The phone sits on the counter where they can hear it ring and choose to answer or not.
Plus, when they go to their dads for a weekend, they can choose to call me or not. Most of the time, not – admittedly – but at least for those two days, I know they can reach me if they want to, any time day or night! In fact, one evening at about 10 pm, my oldest did call. Scared of the dark, she just wanted to hear mommy’s voice.
There are several other benefits to the Alcatel 606A for little kids and the affordability of Walmart Family Mobile. My bill has been $20 a month for the kids phone. That, for a single mom, is a bargain I can live with. I set up the automatic pay option and it just comes out. The easy online account management is key to my keeping up with the services they offer as well! I don’t even have to think about it. One less thing I have to keep on my to-do list. And with the payment being so low, I don’t have to worry about having the money in the account.
The other benefit is that my kids have managed not to destroy the phone yet! And if you saw some of the Barbie dolls who have suffered at the hands of my girls, you would be simply amazing at this fact. They are so careful with it. They put it where it needs to be, they make sure that it is safe and the covet it. It has been dropped – I won’t lie – but it has been picked up and has not suffered at all for it.
If you are a single parent – or a parent who wants your kids to have an affordable cell phone – check out Walmart Family Mobile. The plans, the phones and the ease of use to get, pay for and keep your phone is totally worth it!
Okay, now I’d like to find an affordable smart phone plan, for older adults who don’t chat or text all day, I can do that just fine on this laptop. I haven’t upgraded because I am not a talker…I do wish I had instagram ….or maybe I just want to play with it a month and see if I really need that.
Check at Walmart. They have a variety of phone types and a variety of plans. Calling and texting will come with most plans but you can add web to download Instagram for less than the big cell stores!
Ty, I know about some of their plans, still not sure yet if it’s worthwhile for me. Internet was important for me, so I have Comcast. When they called and offered me cable tv for $10 a month, don’t you know I jumped on that! With HBO….couldn’t pass that up.
Lol. Heck yea!!
