I was born into a family with a lot of mouths to feed.  I was one of 8 kids in a two bedroom trailer moving constantly.  We were very poor and real food was a luxury, I am not going to lie.  I remember counting and dividing crackers and only being allowed a smearing of peanut butter.  On the rare Sunday that my dad was home from being a truck driver, we would have a feast of Goulash!   Complete with bread and butter!  Those Sunday’s were what we lived for!  But they were very few and far between.

When I was adopted at age 8, I never went hungry again.  My amazing mother made 3 meals a day like clock work.  And even though I would sneak into the kitchen late at night and binge, a throwback to never having enough as a younger child, I never knew that gnawing, painful nag in my belly again.

But I was one of the lucky ones.  So many others are not.  So many kids are in families that can not afford a gallon of milk, a loaf of bread or a jar of peanut butter. Much less shampoos, deodorants and paper products.  And even with government and state aid, there seems to never be enough to go around.  Children are falling asleep with a cup of water and a saltine cracker in their bellies.  They are telling themselves that if they just fall asleep, they will not be hungry anymore.

No Child Should Ever Go Hungry

Unilever

Unilever and their family of brands understand this and are using their influence to help educate and encourage us to help Cross Off Hunger.  They want to take a step in Making Life Better for millions who need it.  The best part is, you don’t have to make a purchase of Unilever products to help!  However, by purchasing some awesome brands – and my favorites –  like Ragu®, Skippy®, Suave® and so MANY MORE Unilever Brands, you help them reach their goal faster.

Unilever wants to feed 2 Million families meals through Feeding America.  In addition, through sustainable living, Unilever wants to help one BILLION families improve their health and well – being.   What is sustainable living?  Sustainable living is helping people learn about the importance of health and hygiene as well as nutrition so that we all can make better decisions in taking care of ourselves and our families.  By educating people about how to better reduce our environmental footprints and how to recycle resources, we can all create a healthier world to live in.

I LOVE that Unilever is dedicated to feeding families and helping teach sustainable living.  As our population grows so does the need for little kids all over the world to have more than crackers with a smear of peanut butter for dinner.

I will be collecting and donating to the Food Pantry at my Church this month.  My kids will help me and we will learn that even though this year is lean and mean, it is still an opportunity to realize that we are blessed to have what we need when so many others are not.

How will you help this Holiday Season?
