Last week I told you about my trip to Sam’s where I met Football Legend, Ray Childress.  As a Texan, I watched Mr. Childress tear up the defensive line at Texas A&M University and then go on to do the same for the now defunct Houston Oilers.  He ended his career with the Dallas Cowboys but, in my mind, he will always belong to Houston.

In his retirement, he and his wife started the Childress Foundation which provides programs to enhance student success, promote productive citizenship through community service, and develop effective life skills. Since its inception, the Childress Foundation has provided over $1.7 million in college scholarships and has benefited more than 1,300 students.

I am always excited to meet a player that I was a HUGE fan of as a little girl.  Watching football has been a favorite past time for years and I was actually nervous when I stood in line!

I had no reason to be though.  Mr. Childress was nothing but awesome!  I introduced myself, fumbled with my words and then asked him for a photos – He is TALL!, which he happily obliged!  He wrote that I was ‘An Angel’ on my autographed card and I was on cloud 9 the rest of the day!

After my meet up with a Hall of Famer Football player, I gathered myself together and remembered that I also needed some great snacks and such for the Big Game coming up that Sunday.  The girls and I were headed to the neighbors to take in all of the excitement and festivities!

I know I wanted quick, simple and delicious with a Texas flare!  And because there was a sampling of Tyson Crispy Chicken Strips and KC Masterpiece at the autograph signing, that seemed like the perfect go to for my game snacks!  I walked over to the frozen food section at my Sam’s Club and immediately found a  Tyson Crispy Chicken Strips!  I love these things.  Of course, I love all things Tyson.  But I knew that the kids would eat these and the adults too!

I did notice all of the great flavors of chicken wings that Sam’s carries of Tyson too.  Tequila Lime, Honey BBQ and more, but I decided the Crispy Strips were easier for kids and adults to snack on as they walked back and forth watching the game.

So I grabbed a bag and tried to decide if I would go with the old stand-by ketchup or use KC Masterpiece BBQ Sauce that I had just tried and LOVED!  I  decided since I liked the combination, my pals would too!

I headed to check out after gathering a few more thing for my house – yes, I do need 200 packages of sweetener, thank you – and then realized that we needed drinks to take to my neighbors as well.  So I grabbed Coke as well!  Who does not love Coke?  Especially at a party where chicken strips and BBQ sauce will be served?

As I walked out, I snapped one more photo of Ray Childress sitting and signing autographs.  Can’t have too many, right?

The next day, I picked up my kids from the ex, grabbed my hot Tyson Chicken Strips and KC Masterpiece, as well as my Coke and headed to the neighbors.  I thought about doing Chicken Strip Hoagies with soft bread, onions and the strips and BBQ sauce but I really wanted the kids to want to try the combination so I kept it easy!

Among all of the delicious appetizer style foods that they made, I noticed that my chicken strips and BBQ sauce were well sampled!  And the kids actually TRIED the chicken dipped in BBQ Sauce and loved it too!  I was shocked!

Then again, I am raising Texans and we know good flavor when we taste it!

Next time you have a get together, add some Texas flare with Tyson Crispy Chicken Strips, KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce and Coke to wash it down!  I bet you love the spicy, rich sauce of the BBQ sauce as much as we all did!
