This weekend was a WHIRLWIND! The girls and I traveled many miles for my daughter’s state Destination Imagination tournament. She is going to Globals, YEA!, but that means that we are going to continue the late night practices to prepare to compete. That also means that down time together to just be a family is more valuable than ever. With this and two other girls constantly on the go with Choir, Gymnastics, clubs and more, tonight is about the only night in months that we are going to have for a movie night. So it seems fitting that Spider-Man into the Spider-verse, which won the Academy Award for best animated feature, be the movie we use to relax together as a family! I picked up everything I need for a relaxing evening at Walmart!
Now, if you know me, I have two speeds. Totally failing at preparing for anything or full-on, Super Mom, ‘make it amazing’ mode! Tonight I want to be on Super Mom mode. After all, these night are going to be far and few between.
That is why I chose Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse as our movie, actually. It introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask. The girls and I missed it in theaters due to extra-curricular activities and were pretty bummed about it. Surprising them tonight with this, some Honey Bunches of Oats® Strawberry Marshmallow Treats and chocolate splashed Honeycomb® cereal will just make the whole night a little more colorful!!
Let’s talk about the Honey Bunches of Oats® Strawberry Marshmallow Treats before we go much further! This is a family favorite for sure! To moms who believe everything is better when the family is together, Honey Bunches of Oats® is ideal for bringing the bunch together because it has the wholesome nutrition you want and the yummy honey taste they love.
Since snacking is such a big part of movie night, taking a favorite and turning it into a fun snack was a no-brainer!
- 6 TBSP butter, melted
- 6 Cups Mini Marshmallows
- 6 Cups Honey Bunches of Oats® Strawberry Cereal
- Melting chocolate
- Red
- Blue food coloring
- Melt the butter in a saucepan. Add in marshmallows and stir until melted. Add in Honey Bunches of Oats® Strawberry Cereal and stir until coated. Pour into sprayed pan, lay parchment paper over it to help you smooth the top and freeze 20 minutes.
- Melt white coating chocolate in 2 bowls according to package instructions. Add red and blue food coloring before you melt the chocolate. Using a piping bag and tiny tip to draw out blue and red spider webs.
- While they dry, paint the Honey Bunches of Oats® Strawberry Marshmallow Treats with a layer of white coating chocolate. Add spiderwebs on top!
Along with this delicious treat we added some blue and red coating chocolate to some Honeycomb® and threw it in a bowl! This is just FUN, which is what I am going for, after all! After all, Honeycomb® is a modern-day classic cereal, and now is perfect for snacking. It also reminds me of my childhood and I want to create similar memories with my Tweens.
Now that I have the perfect snacks and the animated movie of the year, I am ready to relax with my kids to snack and watch Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse! Don’t forget to stock up on all you need for your movie night at Walmart.
