A few weeks ago I told you guys that I was shopping with coupons in order to donate some stuffed diaper bags to our local pregnancy crisis non-profit, the Tomball Pregnancy Center. This is a Simple Service Project I was doing with Champions for Kids and All You Magazine.
Well the day came for me to present my stuffed diaper bags and the Center could not have been more grateful. It warmed my heart to see the shine in their eyes and their minds working to list all of the deserving babies that would need a diaper bag like this!
I wanted to give you a little more on my process and then share a few words with you about why this project, as well as the others I have participated in, are so dear to my heart!

So I gathered my formula coupons, my diapers and wipes coupons and two of my girls and headed to the store. I had them so excited to pick stuff out for the little babies that my prideful mommy smile was hard to erase!
We had so much fun getting everything from onesies to pacifiers for our baby girl and baby boy! And when I checked out and watched the cashier scan my coupons, I vowed to use my coupons for good more often! I spent $91 on 2 sets of formula, bottles, diapers, wipes, pacifiers, shampoo, lotion, onesies and bibs AND the diaper bags. I thought that was amazing! And I know that I can collect items on deep discount and with coupons through out the year and could really make a difference to a young mother, a struggling mother, or any mother – and her baby!
Sarah helped me stuff the bags in the van and off we went to the Tomball Pregnancy Center! As stated earlier, they were thrilled! And then they told me that they have classes for new moms and pregnant women on everything from childbirth to how to diaper a baby and moms who attend can earn “mommy bucks”. They thought that these bags would be a great way to encouraging women to come to class and thus, earn the ‘bucks’ to buy them and, in turn, take better care of themselves and their babies!
I, selfishly, loved this entire experience. I adored that, once again, my children were part of the entire process and that they seemed to really grasp what we were doing. I love that an idea that is so simple – to coupon for GOOD – is so rewarding for all involved. And I love that Champions for Kids has so many ideas and suggestions to help us all get involved.

I love your video and your story of coming full circle – very touching and how wonderful that you can now help other children who are in the situation you were in. [PS: I can tell you’re a pro blogger because I can hear TweetDeck notifications in the background, hee hee! :)]
I love that you are doing this!!!! I have been volunteering and donating for my hometown pregnancy center for almost 9 years. In fact I am currently raising funds for the Walk for Life 2012. You can learn more here. And of course any contributions are VERY welcome!!! http://walkforlife.cpcfriends.org/nicoleorr
What a moving story, Lori! My daughter and her Girl Scout troop just did a clothing, toiletries and food drive today working towards their Bronze Award. They are donating to a local food and clothing shelter in our area. They met with the executive director and I think that was really helpful for them to understand the need. We are teaching them service early because it not only helps others in need, it helps our own children who are fortunate to have their basic needs met and then some to hopefully be a little more humble. Keep up the great work that you do too!!!
I did a stuffed diaper bag too – it was So much fun putting together – I have a real burden for new moms in need b/c that’s just when you get HIT with a pile of bills and THEN have to start buying all these new supplies for the little one – having a new baby really puts a financial strain on a family so I think it’s important to give to the little ones when we can! :)
What a touching story.
