Since my stay in the hospital last month which Doctor’s think started with minor allergies, I have been looking for ways to make my home healthier.  From the food I cook to the air we breathe, honestly, improvements can be made everywhere!

Since allergens started this whole mess, I have been interested in air filters on the market that can clean my air inside my home better. Building Biologist and author, Lisa Beres is a master at helping to prevent odor in your home.  From odors permeating from the refrigerator to odors that come from air fresheners, she has a better way to freshen your home without mustering up your air.

Since I use a lot of air fresheners in my home to cover dog and little kid odors, I was really interested in her tips on how to really eliminate odors but not contaminate my air – thus aggravating my allergies.

Source: Candles and air fresheners
Solution: Instead of trying to mask the odors with store-bought air fresheners, create your own air freshener by combining 10 drops of an essential oil — such as lavender or eucalyptus — with two cups of water. Many air fresheners may sway you with the scents of fresh cut grass, warm vanilla or tropical fruits, but they can contain synthetic chemicals, such as formaldehyde, which can irritate eyes, skin and throats.

Interesting, right?  So I am going to try this.  Not only is it cheaper, maybe it will help me feel better without all of these medications!

Besides this little tip, I am going to invest in better storage containers that keep odors out of my fridge and in the container and I am going to try to seal off my back door with weather stripping so that the dust stays outdoors and not in my house!  As I sneeze, I realize how important it is to enact as many clean house habits as I can!

Like changing my air filters!  The Filtrete Odor Reduction filter helps reduce airborne allergens from the air passing through the filter, such as household dust, pollen, dust mite debris and mold spores.  In fact, I found some the other day at my local retailer and picked them up!  I can not wait to see how this helps me and my kids breathe fresher air!

Check out some of the Product Features below:

• 65 times more effective than other carbon filters at removing odors, such as those from cooking,
tobacco smoke, pets, mildew and cleaning chemicals.
• Starts to remove even the strongest odors in minutes, after the furnace fan is turned on
• Captures large airborne allergens such as household dust, pollen, mold spores and dust mite debris
• Captures microscopic particles such as smoke, pet dander and smog
