It is no secret to anyone who knows me that my dogs are as much kids to me as my three beautiful daughters are. These animals are more than pets. They are my companions when my kids are gone, my snuggle buddies late at night and my furry kids with antics that I swear they do on purpose to make me laugh. If you follow #OneEyedJack, #PamperedPiper or #Budweiser on Instagram, you know that these dogs, all rescues, are an intricate part of my and my kid’s lives. I want them here for as long as I possible can keep them here. Regular pet care, good grooming, lots of clean water and exercise will help me with that. But what I feed them plays a huge roll too! Lately I have been learning a LOT about what is put in dog foods. With my research has come the desire to feed my pups Grain Free foods. So while shopping at HEB the other day, I grabbed a few bags of Purina® Beyond® Grain Free Dog Food.
Changing a dog’s food can be challenging and cause some tummy issues for your furry pets. So make sure you do it slowly and blend in the old and the new food until your four legged pals are all up to speed. Now, I have to admit because I have come across some grain free food brands that my dogs, literally, turn their noses up to. I ended up donating those while I searched for a new brand. So when I put a little Purina® Beyond® Grain Free Dry Dog Food in with their old brand, that costs twice as much, I was a little apprehensive. But they ate it up and, after a week, I only feed them the Purina® Beyond® Grain Free Dry Dog Food. I get empty bowls at each meal time!
Aside from it being tasty for my pups, grain free foods offer a lot more benefits as well. First of all, chicken is the first and main ingredient. Real chicken too… no chicken by products. There is no corn, wheat or soy which are generally non-nutritional fillers and difficult for dogs to digest. You really don’t even want that in your pets foods, anyway. Take away the artificial flavors and colors and grain free foods are just a smarter choice for my fur-babies! Just like with my kids, I want my dogs to be as healthy and happy as possible!
If you have followed me at all, you know that my dogs make all the difference in the quality of life the kids and I have. They are awesome for teaching kids responsibility, unconditional love and dedication and aid in making us feel safe and secure in our own home. I, literally, cannot imagine life without Bud, Piper and Jack. In fact, truth be told, I would have more rescue dogs if I could. Three kids and three dogs are about my limit, however!
We all want those sweet pets that star next to our children in photos to live as long as possible. We also want them to have the highest quality of life that we can provide. Research on your own and learn, like I did, how a grain free diet for your pets can potentially help your pets live better lives!
How many pets do you have? Have you ever fed Grain Free? I’d love to hear all about them!
