A few weeks ago I invited you to join me in donating light bulbs and other essentials as part of the #GELightingCFK event this month! In addition, anyone who does help by participating in the GE energy smart challenge can WIN the $100 daily prize just for sharing their story! It can be as easy as purchasing some light bulbs and giving them to a family in need to collecting supplies at your church and sharing how you did! Just be sure to take photos and report your good work on the Champions for Kids website!
Consider collecting GE energy smart light bulbs and donating them to your local Red Cross so that they can be sent to the East Coast in the wake of Hurricane Sandy! Now that would be an amazing donation to report and so helpful to so many!
To learn how this donation can not only help others but you in your own home, see how switching from incandescent bulbs to GE energy smart bulbs can really save you! Check out how the small change can help on a regular 60W bulb!
Back to how I did it! I shared my shopping experience in my previous post and Google + story with you guys a few weeks ago. This is such an easy Simple Service Project that anyone can do it! Because I left on a cruise for a week I decided that instead of collecting from family and neighbors, I would not only donate what I purchased, but also 2 $20 coupons that I had to let them get the size of GE energy smart light bulbs they needed.
I chose the Boys and Girls Country in Tomball, TX. This Christian non-profit is a favorite of mine to donate to. Being a child of foster care, I understand how the little things can make a HUGE difference in a child’s life. There are many houses on the property that the kids live in, some with their families in crisis and some with counselors and people that have made it their life to help these children.
I know that this organization needs everything from furniture to items they can resell to books to basics like light bulbs. So I was thrilled to be able to give them the bulbs and night lights that I purchased along with $40 in free coupons. I know that it will help and they were VERY appreciative! I also gave the rest of the books I collected from last months book drive.

I took my two little ones and was THRILLED that they are learning that when we drive up to this organization it means that we are giving back. I hope to goodness that by taking them month after month to the many deserving charities in our area that they are learning that taking an hour a month and a few dollars to make a difference is easy, fun and necessary.
How will you give back this month? With Thanksgiving around the corner, how will you show your kids that the little things are what can make you the most thankful? Take the SIMPLE Service Challenge and report it back to Champions for Kids. And then take the $100 daily gift card that is being given away and return it back to your charity. Every single thing helps!
