As you know, my kids and I have a sweet tooth weakness! While they are at their dad’s, I am trying all kinds of new recipes! Like Firecracker Vanilla Cupcakes. Whatever the occasion these firecrackers will add a little smile to everyone’s face as they reminisce on old and new memories of Fireworks. From the patriotic colors of Red, White and Blue to the classic Twizzlers, this is treat everyone will love all summer long.
One of my favorite parts of Summer are all the fireworks. The bright colors lighting up the sky, and watching the joy on the girls faces as they either watch in awe or hide under my arms while snatching peeks between Firecracks. With Firecracker cupcakes you get all the ooh’s and awes over the colors, but can avoid those big scary booms.
It all brings back memories of my own joy and wonder over our nations celebrations. I’m pretty sure most Firework shows I can recall include a bag of pull n peels. Sharing a bag with my family was always a special treat. Topping them on cupcakes just makes sense.
- Cupcakes:
- 2 cups flour
- 2 tsp Baking Powder
- ½ tsp Salt
- ½ cup softened butter
- ¾ cup Sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup Milk
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- Frosting:
- 1 cup softened Butter
- 3 cup Powdered Sugar
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- 1-2 tbsp Milk
- Red and Blue Gel Coloring
- Twizzlers Peel and Pull Candies
- Preheat Oven to 375. Line muffin pan with liners
- Whisk together flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
- Cream together butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs and Vanilla
- Add in flour mixture and milk gradually alternating between them.
- Fill each liner ⅔ full and bake for 18 minutes or until toothpick inserted in middle comes out clean.
- Allow to cool.
- Whip butter, vanilla and gradually add powdered sugar.
- Add milk until you reach desired consistency.
- Prepare a piping bag and fold the bag down over a cup.
- Using a toothpick draw several red and blue lines of the sides of the bag. Transfer frosting to piping bag and frost each cupcake.
- Cut Twizzlers into approximately 2" pieces and insert in middle peeling a little at the top for effect.
Adding the color to the frosting may sound difficult, but it really is pretty simple. Take your time placing the bag and painting in the color, and you’ll get it right. Start frosting from the outside and work your way in and up for the best effect.
What I love about cupcakes is they go with anything. Take them to the park, beach, BBQ, or right in your backyard for a celebration. They’re a treat just about everyone enjoys, but whether they eat them or just enjoy their colors they will be a hit.
