Make Breakfast Happen So Kids Can Be Hungry For More
Hunger Is the child who goes to school with no breakfast. Hunger Is the child who only eats a small amount at lunch because he does not have enough to eat more. Hunger Is a child coming home to a dinner that may or may not be there. As a mom, and a child who spent the first 6 years of her life hungry, this topic not only brings back the pain of not having enough food as a child but also great pride in companies and people who are doing what they can to make sure no child feels that. My Albertson’s affiliate, Randall’s, is participating in the Hunger Is program and aiming to increase the school breakfast program by feeding kids everywhere. By shopping there and purchasing participating items, I can help Randall’s donate to help make sure kid’s get the food they need to succeed in school! For every unit sold of participating items in September 2016, $0.10 goes back to your local market, up to $1M nationally!
As a mom I want my kids to do the absolute best they can in school. As an adult I am truly blessed to be able to provide breakfast every day to my kids. Not only that, I am also able to foot the bill for them if they want to have a second breakfast at school. But the numbers are staggering for kids who don’t have a way to get the breakfast they need to pay attention to school work and not the hunger pains in class. Feeding kids seems like such an easy thing to do. Yet so many fall short.
10 million children; nearly half of eligible children do not receive free or reduced price school breakfast and 3 out of 5 K-8 public school teachers report regularly seeing students coming to school hungry. That is staggering. It is not how it should be. Breakfast should be provided, no matter what, to every student. Unfortunately, the cost to feed these students can be staggering as well. So with programs like the Hunger Is campaign with Randall’s, we can donate to help these kids and their schools by expanding the breakfast program to every child.
To help donate, find your store in your area and grab your weekly shopping list. Products from Kellogg’s, Campbell’s, Pepperidge Farms and more are all participating to help. Brands we use everyday can make a real difference in kid’s lives. Even the Randall’s store brand is participating! So stock up, shop every time at Randall’s until at least September 30 and be a part of the solution for hungry kids!
Do you think breakfast is the most important part of the day? How else will you give back to make sure every child has the food they need to succeed?
*purchase of this item in September 2016 will trigger at least $0.10 donation up to $1 million. Look for tags at participating stores.
