This summer has already kicked off with a bang. While having no school schedule seems like a plus, adding in multiple camps, unending trips to the swimming pool and overall kid chaos has sent my schedule into a whirlwind. Add to that the four beagle puppies that were abandoned that I am now fostering and I feel more overwhelmed than I did when school was in session! There is one sure fire way to relax me, however, and that is game night with my girls. If I could afford a lifestyle of just hanging with my kids, I would. I adore them and, even when they are fighting, they entertain me. So, this weekend, with 4 beagle puppies playing, my own 4 dogs doing everything they could to avoid them and my nerves on end, we had game night! While it may seem to some that it can be complicated, here are 4 Tips for the Perfect Game Night that everyone will love!
Board Games
There are some really cool games out there right now! We pulled out Beat the Parents first! My kids thought it was great fun to try to stump me! As we moved through the night we opened – and thoroughly enjoyed – the 5 Second Rule game and even started learning Scattergories. With a mix of new and old games, game night can be entertaining and a blast from the past all in one! Having multiple games ups the family time and the fun!
Prepare for your food intake
When I get stressed out, especially, I like to eat foods that are high is happy. Unfortunately, that means that I also tend to get heartburn flare ups as well. If I do, I can enjoy some treats with the kids that are not on our normal menu without the side effects. For game night, chicken nuggets and Movie Theater Butter Popcorn are always on hand!
Take Pictures
You just have to take photos during game night. You just have to! I love the new instant cameras that are out now that remind me of the ones from my childhood! The Fujifilm instax mini 8 is so fun to use! My kids LOVE it! Just as we got great satisfaction from getting instant snapshots from the cameras of our childhood, our kids can get instant pics to store in a photo album. I love these and I think everyone should have one!
Popcorn for the Perfect Game Night
For game night, chicken nuggets and Movie Theater Butter Popcorn are always on hand! My daughter, Sarah, took popcorn as her afternoon snack every single school day and only likes Orville Redenbacher’s! So having it on hand on game night is just a no-brainer. Plus, knowing I have been taking my Nexium 24HR makes it fun for me too!
Relax
Game nights are loud, crazy and messy and I would not have it any other way! I used to get really stressed out by the chaos but when I learned to just relax and enjoy it, the true fun of it all shined through! I’ll take this over the kids having the TV on, their tablets in hand and zoning out any day of the week!
