It is 8:30 in the morning and I have already accomplished more today than any human should have. Just getting three kids up and ready for school and getting them to two schools that start an hour apart is a chore. You parents know. The school routine can be brutal some days. Before I even wake them up for the battle, however, I am already up and working. Running a business just requires it. By the time I get to CrossFit at 9:30am, I have already had a really full day! I literally call it my lunch time workout! None of this, and I mean NONE of it, could not be accomplished without good nutrition. When I need a pick me up, I turn to nutrition. One of my favorite ways to get it is to pick up my Creminelli Fine Meats™ when I stop at Starbucks in the morning. It is just one of the 4 Ways I Stay Powered Up for It All.
Good Nutrition = Good Energy
Anyone at my CrossFit box will tell you that protein is key in keeping your energy level balanced. But it also encourages lean muscle growth, which is important to me. I don’t want to be a body builder and I always want to whittle away at my waist, but I want the muscles I do build to be strong and healthy. Since protein is processed by my body more slowly than carb-heavy foods, it keeps me feeling full for longer, as well as balances out my blood sugar levels to prevent the low-energy crash I often experience with sweet or starchy snacks.
There are all kinds of ‘energy boosts’ on the market but I don’t like the effects of any of them. I would much rather enjoy a Creminelli Prosciutto & Aged Mozzarella snack tray than anything else. The paper thin slices of aged prosciutto paired with mozzarella makes me feel like I am giving myself a treat and nutrition at the same time.
I love that I can just grab it on my morning Starbucks run and enjoy it all day.
Exercise is For More than Your Waistline
It is very hard for me to spend a ton of time with friends. I work from home and spend the majority of my day alone. I have an assistant so that helps but, most days, and any weekend that I do not have my kids because they are at their dad’s house, I am completely alone.
While I go to CrossFit for the fitness aspects and love the shape my body is taking, I also go for the people fuel! When you find the right gym or workout place and you make genuine friendships, that people time becomes a massive source of energy! Just laughing together, complaining about the workout together and hearing everyone encourage and cheer for you when you workout is a HUGE energy boost that I can rely on all day long.
I LOVE my CrossFit peeps and could not get through my very busy day without them! I love when we have a few minutes after the workout to sit around, enjoy a snack and just talk. It does not happen often with my schedule but I love it just the same!
Water, Water and More Water
Dehydration exhausts me. It really does. I can always tell on the days I have not had enough water because I feel slow and sluggish. So now I carry water bottles everywhere and try really hard to at least get in my recommended allowance.
My problem is not that I don’t love water, it is that I get busy and forget to drink it. So, by having water bottles everywhere, I can insure that lack of water in my body is not leading to lack of energy!
GET OUTSIDE!
I am saddled indoors to my desk most days. So any chance I get I get OUTSIDE! If it were not for the mosquitoes in Texas, I would have an outdoor office!
Even on my busiest days, doing something easy like hooking up the dogs and going on a 10 minute walk can massively boost my energy! The sunshine, the exercise and getting my blood flowing is essential to my daily energy management needs. Try it! You will be amazing how getting out for more than running errands every day can benefit you!
I think we Americans can learn a lot more about how food and drinks and friendships can work FOR us. We are so inundated with options that it is hard to know what to choose to make sure we have the natural energy we need to get through the day! For instance, in Europe, having a mid-afternoon snack of Italian meat & cheeses is the norm. However, in the United States there is a gap of finding a quick and easy protein snack. That’s where Creminelli comes in! It’s an easy, on-the-go snack that fulfills a desire for protein.
I love it. It is fresh, real and flavorful food that fuels me through the rest of my day. When you get up at 5am and go to bed at 10, and have three kids, four dogs, two businesses and everything else around you to take care of, the best source of getting through it all is balanced energy!
