3 Ways New Moms Can Really Benefit from Online Connections

3 Ways New Moms Can Benefit from Online Connections

It may seem odd that I am writing this post because my ‘babies’ are 12, 11 and 9. But, all of these years later, I still see the benefits of an online community that has helped me every step of the way through this parenting journey. It started over 13 years ago when I was trying to get pregnant with my first daughter. The group I found on iVillage, July Sparklers, is still active on Facebook today. We have watched each other get pregnant, have babies, have more babies, discuss breast versus formula, raise babies and now support each other through the teen years. It has been amazing and I would not trade it for the world.

Being a new mom is hard. No one really understands the mix of emotion, exhaustion and pure confusion more than another new mom. Sure, we have friends in real life that have had children, maybe even friends whose kids are the same age as ours. But being able to ask the hard questions, the embarrassing questions and the questions that matter can be hard face to face. Online communities are so valuable, especially if you can find the right ones.

You can talk about the hard stuff:

The debates for moms are intense. There are a lot of opinions and it can be hard to decide what is right for you. One of the top discussions in my group was breast vs formula. Breast is best but what if you can’t be a full time breastfeeding mom? In the group we were able to have a healthy discussion from all sides. That included the conversation of what formula to feed if you had to or wanted to go that route.

I was always one that looked for the best ingredients versus a well known brand. If I were feeding today, I would happily give love & care Infant Formula. It is a milk-based powder with iron that offers complete nutrition tailored for infants. These milk-based formulas are Non-GMO, meaning they are produced using ingredients that have not been genetically engineered. They are also gluten-free and Certified Kosher by the Orthodox Union.

Inspired by mother’s milklove & care Infant features DHA, a fatty acid that may support brain and eye development, and is found in breast milk. It also contains choline, which is found in mother’s milk and supports brain and eye development.

When feeding my girls, I did try to exclusively breastfeed. But I also supplemented with formula and would have easily chosen love & care Infant formula with confidence. It is just as good as the leading national brand but at a fraction of the cost.

It was in my new moms group that I learned the benefits of knowing the ingredients instead of the brand name.

Someone understands. Even at 3am:

I remember many an evening where my ex-husband was sound asleep and I was up for the 3rd or 4th time with a child. I loved it but it was a lonely feeling to be up night after night. One night, baby awake and refusing to go back to sleep, I logged in and immediately found that there were other moms in my group in the exact same boat. It felt good to be able to have a conversation about how tired I was instantly.

They learn your story:

For almost 14 years there women have been there through it all. Three kids, a rocky marriage, a nasty divorce and life rebuilt. They are an intricate part of the healing process I needed to keep my chin up. And I have never met a single one face to face. They know my story and I know  theirs. We have had our ups and downs here and there but knowing they are always there with advice and kind words makes this journey through parenthood that much easier.

If you are trying to conceive, are pregnant or are a new mom, look for a community online that can help you through the good times and the bad. Also take the time to learn about the things you feed your baby, especially the formula you feed. With dual prebiotics, DHA vitamins and minerals and complete nutrition tailored for infants, it is a great option that can save you money as well!
