As a child, the first love story that I hoped for was Winnie and Kevin Arnold in The Wonder Years. This innocent show dove deep into the trials and tribulations of family, friendship and that first love we never forget. Finally, after all of the years, The Wonder Years is out on DVD! To celebrate this milestone, you can order the entire The Wonder Years collection as well as a huge gift pack to bring The Wonder Years and all of it’s glory into your home!
It was 1968 — the year of Nixon and space walks and Mod Squad and Vietnam. Enter Kevin Arnold (Savage), a sixth grader at Kennedy Junior High School. Set against the suburban backdrop of Anytown, USA, Kevin sought to minimize his teenage angst while dealing with an older, noogie-happy brother Wayne (Jason Hervey), a rebellious sister, Karen (Olivia d’Abo), distant, workaholic father, Jack (Dan Lauria) and doting housewife mother, Norma (Alley Mills). Add to the mix Paul Pfeiffer (Josh Saviano), his nerdy, allergy-riddled best friend, a potential love interest in winsome girl-next-door Winnie Cooper (Danica McKellar) and narration by an older, wiser, wittier Kevin (voiced by Daniel Stern) to add perspective to the nostalgia, and you have the perfect recipe for TV greatness.
I remember sitting in front of the TV, glued to the story line of the awkward boy and his quirky sidekick, as he navigated life and the boundaries he could cross. As ever serious issue out there played in front of my, I could relate and understand his dilemmas. With just the Season 1 DVD, I can introduce my kids to my childhood friends. With the entire set I can relive it all.
