Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. An apple a day will keep the doctor away. Once on your lips, always on your hips. There are all kinds of sayings and messages out there reminding us to give our bodies nutritious options. As intelligent people, we know we need to fuel our bodies to be at their best. Unfortunately, really great looking meals and desserts side track us way too often. Luckily, we can still have our deliciousness and nutrition in at least one food: milk. Whether you drink it by itself or add in into an amazing recipe, like a Raspberry Peach Mango Smoothie Bowl, it is a food that fuels with the creamy flavor I love.
Yogurt and fruit bowls are all the rage right now. They combine the goodness of milk and dairy with the cool, crisp flavor of fruits that we all love. I have made a few over the last few months and have found that my favorite is the Raspberry Peach Mango Smoothie Bowl. My kids love it too and the homemade flavor is unmatched.

Now, I know what you are thinking. Milk is a drink, not a food. Many of us may not even think much about our beverage choices. But the reality is, what we drink can be as important as what we eat. Adults and kids take in about 400 calories per day as beverages, according to My Plate. So it’s important to remember that beverages can be a key source of nutrition in our diets, and should be carefully selected.
My kids love milk. Two of them like chocolate and one will only drink white milk. But when I make these delicious bowls, we all gobble them down!

- ¾ cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
- Greek Yogurt 0% Fat, Plain
- ¼ cup reduced-fat milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract¼ ripe peach, sliced
- ⅓ cup raspberries
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened coconut flakes
- 1 teaspoon chia seeds
- Combine mango, yogurt, milk and vanilla in a blender. Puree until smooth. Pour the smoothie into a bowl and top with peach slices, raspberries, almonds, coconut and chia seeds to taste.
I know a lot of us like milk alternatives as well, and they can be used in this recipe, but milk and non-dairy alternatives to milk are not created equal. The naturally-occurring nutrients in many non-dairy milk alternatives, like almond milk, soy milk and coconut milk, are not the same as in cow’s milk. In fact, few can match the full nutrient package found naturally in milk, which contains calcium, phosphorus, protein, potassium and B vitamins. This means that many non-dairy milk alternatives often fortify their products with these nutrients.
I like that it has high-quality protein for lean muscle and that it has Vitamin A for a healthy immune system. For the kids – and I suppose for me as I enter my 45th year – I really like that milk has Bone-building nutrients like calcium, Vitamin D, and phosphorus.
Aside from the fact that milk is nutritious and delicious, it is also on almost everyone’s budget list. A gallon of milk is relatively inexpensive compared to other drinks, like juice and soda, and so much better for us too!
As you create your own Raspberry Peach Mango Smoothie Bowl, add the milk of your choice. It only enhances the goodness of this meal for everyone!
