You know the expression, ‘While the cat is away, the mouse will play?’ Well, when the kid’s are at dad’s for weeks on end during the summer, Mama will dig through box after box of select General Mills cereals searching for the elusive 7th Minion that might be in specially marked boxes. I know, I know. You thought this single mom would be living it up enjoying the cleaner house and ability to watch the shows she can’t when the kids are here. But nope. I am having way more fun that that! I am reliving the nostalgia of digging to the bottom of my favorite cereals as a kid and pulling out a toy that I loved! Oh, and I am making Mini Trix Marshmallow Treats… but that’s purely because they are so good! And I don’t have to share.
Now listen, none of this came about by accident. There is an awesome movie coming out soon that has the Minions front and center on the big screen. My children are obsessed…. like, really obsessed with Minions. So when I was at Walmart searching for things to eat as a single gal with no curfew, I purposely went down the cereal aisle. I mean, who wants to cook? So I was looking for my favorite cereals like Lucky Charms, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Honey Nut Cheerios anyway. But when I saw that select boxes have MINIONS?!?!… well, I saw an opportunity to gain mommy points when the kids do get home!
I saw them on the Extra Large Family Packs which is perfect for this cereal loving family. Basically, all of the boxes have a Minion toy in them. But there is a 7th Minion which is hard to find! So, to up my chances, I bought 4 large boxes. What? I’ll eat them all! I got them home and decided that I did not have to follow my own rules of not opening the box until you are ready to eat them. I tore all 4 boxes open for the sole purpose of seeing if I found that 7th Minion!!
Sadly, I did not. However, I found 4 Minion toys that will be awesome on my kid’s backpacks, hanging from hooks and more! It is possible that my kids will be more excited about these than being home in a few weeks.
After opening the boxes and realizing that I had a plethora of breakfast, lunches and dinners in front of me, I also realized that I have dessert! The new Mini Trix, which are a limited release, are perfect for Mini Trix Marshmallow Treats! I made some and am happily munching as I type!
- 3 TBSP butter
- 1 bag large marshmallows
- 5½ cups of Mini Trix
- Melt the butter and marshmallows in a sauce pan. Add to Mini Trix. Blend and pour into a buttered or sprayed pan. Use wax paper to flatten. Let sit, cut and enjoy!
These treats are a fun and colorful twist on a classic!
How much do your kids love the Minions? Are they excited to see the movie? Which Minion would you.. I mean they like to find in specially marked boxes of General Mills cereals?
