It’s no secret to anyone that knows me- I love books.  All kinds of books.  Especially kids’ books.  My husband is fairly certain I could fill my own library with the books I own.  So imagine my excitement when I was asked to review The Secret Mountain’s latest storybook/music CD, A Gift for Sophie.

A Gift For Sophie Book and CD

A Gift for Sophie is a story about a seven year old girl who loves to draw.  Her favorite people to draw are her granduncle “Old Man Tom” and her friend Emilio.  One day her friend Emilio found a thick piece of glass on the beach and inside it looked as though it held every color there ever was when held up into the sun.  After Old Man Tom passed away, one day the “Eye” went missing.  After searching high and low, the investigation came to a standstill.  Did Sophie and Emilio find the “Eye”?  To find out you’ll have to read for yourself!

I love that the entire book is in audio on the CD.   I can either read the story to Lorelai myself, or she can put the cd in and listen to it on her own.  After the narration of the story there are 9 songs that are about the story: It’s All in the Nature of Things, With Just One Piece of Wood, and Old Tom’s House, to name a few.

A Gift for Sophie was translated from an award-winning French storybook and was written by Gilles Vigneault.  Here is an interview with Gilles.

You can purchase your own copy of A Gift for Sophie in the book/cd format or a complete digital format (with printable lyrics) from The Secret Mountain OR you can enter below and one lucky reader will WIN their very own copy of the book and CD!
