Sometimes a girl needs to have a piece of cake. But a typical piece just won’t do. She needs something rich, warming, creamy and crunchy all in the same cake. That was me this week. So I went to the store and started stalking the aisles. I came across my favorite pretzel candy and a light bulb went off. What if I could incorporate all of my favorites into a delicious cake? Thus was born my Chocolate Caramel Pretzel Cake!
Yes, what you see is exactly what you get. The cake has chocolate, caramel, pretzels and deliciousness all wrapped up in one. You can totally do this with store bought items as I did or you can make it from scratch. I needed cake. So Betty Crocker to the rescue!
- 1 box chocolate cake mix
- 1 box white cake mix
- 1 container chocolate fudge icing
- 1 container chocolate caramel icing
- 1 jar caramel
- 1 bag of pretzels
- 1 ounce white chocolate
- Line the bottom of 2 cake pans with parchment paper and spray the sides. Mix chocolate cake mix as per box. Divide evenly into the pans. Drop pans on counter to pop the air bubble. Bake according to the package. Mix and repeat with the while cake layer, only making one of the two pans. Cool cakes and use a serrated knife to cut the tops off so they all sit flat. While cooling, put some pretzels in a plastic bag and use a rolling pin or tenderizer to smash them up. Put a chocolate layer on your plate and ice with the chocolate caramel icing. Add a few tablespoons of caramel sauce and spread evenly. Add a layer of crushed pretzels. Top with the white cake layer. Spread the chocolate caramel icing over the white cake, add a few tablespoons of caramel, spread evenly and add a layer of pretzels. Top with the second layer of chocolate cake. Ice entire three layer cake with chocolate fudge icing. Meanwhile, melt 1 ounce of white chocolate in the microwave according to directions. Use a spoon to gently string the white chocolate over the cake. Top with decorative pretzels and serve.
I can not tell you how divine this is. The added crunch of the pretzels with the creaminess of the caramel just sends your taste buds to another level of happy place. Guests will adore this creative cake and you will drink in the praise. And milk.
Have milk on hand.
I served mine on my glass cake plate and even think I might be onto something for fun cupcakes! The flavor reminds me of my favorite candy so it totally hit the spot!
What candy of yours do you want to turn into an amazing cake? I would love to hear all about it!
