There comes a time in every parent’s life where they have to hand over a box of multi-piece toys to their kids and let them have at it. It can be scary unless the toy really promotes cognitive thinking, hand eye coordination and a thorough thought process. The Zometool Building Toys connect art, science and play for kids 6 and up. However, my 5 year old seemed the most interested in this toy and I loved that!
I got this toy a little while ago and have been protective of it since the day we opened it. Why protective? Because this toy already causes my children to sit nicely and play quietly together as they help each other figure out how to build shapes, spheres, orbs and more. Plus, I see this as a toy that will grow with them. As they become more educated on three dimensional shapes and objects, they can use the Zometool Toy to recreate them in their own living room!
The basic premise is a ball and a stick. The balls have many different shapes that make them up. Each color stick that attaches to them has a different shape on the end. And the sticks are short, long and in between as well as multi colored. By attaching the certain shape to the part of the ball that it fits in, they can connect the balls and sticks and make any number of great models!
With 246 parts including 186 struts and 60 nodes in a sturdy, easy to store, carrying case, both my kids and me have been taking time out to see what we can create. Well, until they kicked me out. Now I just watch them and relish in the fact that my laundry is done.
