I am so glad that we have decided not to pigeon hole our girls into the “girl only” toy genre.  We have great friends who have only boys and we always love when hand me down trucks, games and more “boy” toys come into the house.  And so do  my girls.  It’s nice to have something that is not pink around!

So when I was offered the chance to review Mega Squad Construction Site by Mega Bloks, I jumped at the chance even though some might think it more a ‘boys’ toy!  It is so not, by the way!

My husband sat down with my girls and they worked tirelessly to put together the people, the tractor, the steamroller and more.  And then the girls played and played and now, we have a special bin just for their construction toys!   Plus it has inspired a whole new list of “What Santa need to bring me” toys – like the Fire Patrol Rescue Set and more!

But here is a cute story!

I was really interested to see if my 5 year old could handle the little pieces and put them together.  They put the people together immediately and then got to work on the vehicles.  And then I distracted them with dinner and promised they could get back to it later.

Well, after dinner and while I was getting the kids ready for bed before they could go back and play, I look over and see my husband, head bent intently over the Mega Squad Construction set putting it together!  It was so cute and just shows that these sets are for kids of all ages!

The set has 218 pieces so I had to watch my littlest one around it, but it is a great toy!  It teaches patience… they SO need to learn that, analytical thinking – how can I attach the roller to make it roll? – and is a great tool on teaching how to follow instructions!  Everything snaps together easily and, if they do knock something off or take it apart, my 5 year old does not seem to have any problem putting them back together!
