Some movies are just worth getting to know. With so much stuff out there meant to entertain only, it is always nice to have something that can entertain and educate without the kids even realizing it. Like Scholastic movies. As I have said before, they are fun, a little addicting and education as well!  The new DVD, Bink and Gollie is the perfect compilation of lessons, entertainment and fun for little girls. This one really had my 7 yr old daughter, Sophie, excited!

Bink and Gollie DVD

This DVD has 4 different stories on it.  Sophie recognized A Sick Day for Amos McGee, by Philip C. Stead, immediately.  She just read the book at school last month!  She was so excited to watch the video!  In this story, Amos receives unexpected guests from the zoo when he is home sick.  The animals keep him occupied all day!

In the story Bink and Gollie, by Kate DiCamillo, Bink and Gollie don’t agree on ANYTHING!!!!  This story focuses on COMPROMISE!  Something I think is a great lesson (especially for my household with a 5 yr old and 7 yr old!!!) for most kids.  The illustrations are so cute and the narrators voices are perfect!  This was probably Sophie’s favorite (probably because she related to it so much because she has a younger sibling).

The Other Side, by Jacqueline Woodson, was MY favorite.  As the mom of biracial children, this story made me a bit teary!  It focuses on the friendship that is formed between 2 little kids from opposite sides of a segregated town.  It was very interesting to watch my biracial child absorb what she was watching.  It also opened up some awesome conversations after we watched it.  What a great story!

The last story on the DVD was Cat and Canary, by Michael Foreman.  This is a cute easy watch.  It is a story about unlikely friends Cat and Canary!
