The ultimate surprise movie night is being planned in this house thanks to the much anticipated Blu-Ray DVD release of the Disney hit, Big Hero 6! While I won’t get my Big Hero 6 (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD) / The Science Of Big Hero 6 DVD pack until tomorrow, the release date, I am already preparing to shock my kids with a movie they have been begging to see! We missed it in theaters so this is going to be too fun! In addition to my Big Hero 6 Cream Cheese Cake Balls recipe, I also pre-ordered some Big Hero 6 merchandise on Walmart.com to plant around the house for them to find!
By the way, the purchase of the Big Hero 6 Blu-Ray/DVD + Gift With Purchase Set includes a digital movie on Vudu while supplies last! Simply scan your receipt using the Savings Catcher in the Walmart app. Then look for a message on your phone or email. Now you can watch Big Hero 6 on any device!
Before I talk about the great toys I got my kids, check out this clip from Big Hero 6. After winning the OSCAR last night for best animated film, I know I am even more excited to see it!
Now that I have you clicking the pre-order button on Walmart.com, let’s talk about more fun surprise movie night treats I have up my sleeves for my kids! TOYS!
Merchandise is going FAST so be sure to order now so you have it for your movie night! I ordered a Funko Pop! Disney Big Hero 6 Go Go Tomago Vinyl Figure, a Funko Pop! Disney Big Hero 6 Honey Lemon Vinyl Figure and the Bandai America Big Hero 6 Small Plush, 2-Pack, Baymax and Honey Lemon for the girls!
I am hiding them at the moment but they will come out and watch the movie with the girls, thus adding to the excitement!
Now, onto a fun and delicious surprise treat for the kids, my Big hero 6 Cream Cheese Cake Balls. These are so easy even I can do it! All you need is white cake mix (or make it from scratch), Marshmallow flavored candy melts and a black icing writing pen.
- 1 box white cake mix, or make from scratch
- 3 egg whites
- ¼ cup of oil
- 1 cup water
- 1 8oz container of cream cheese
- 1 bag of marshmallow candy melts
- black writing icing
- sprinkles
- Make the cake according to the box instructions adding the egg whites, oil and water. Bake cake according to box and let cool. Using your fingers, dig out the middle of the cake avoiding letting the brown pieces from the sides, bottom and top into the mix. You want to keep it as white as possible. Add the cream cheese and blend until soft. Roll in your hand making a cake ball. Refrigerate to add firmness for an hour. When ready, melt the candy melts according to directions. Gently roll the cake ball in the melted candy and place on parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Let sit until the candy coating has set. Using your writing pen, make 2 dots and a line to look like Bayomax. Let set and serve.
Here is a helpful tip. A while back I saw an egg carton used as a stand for cake pops. So, for these I used my carton. It works well but I think that if I had poked the holes a little smaller and used longer cake pop sticks, it would have worked better. It worked OK as was, but with some changes it would be brilliant!
To add a little color, I added some red sparkle sprinkles to some of the cake balls. Do this step while the candy is still wet or it won’t stick. Since I have only made cake balls one other time in my life and they were a dismal disaster, I was pretty pleased with how these came out! My kids are going to FLIP when they see them!
Celebrating this now Oscar winning movie is going to be great fun in this house! With the movie, the complimentary toys and the cake pops, the night will be one my kids – and I – will remember fondly!
What other ideas can you give me to make this night a success? Have you seen Big Hero 6? Did you love it?
I love the Funko pop vinyl characters, I think we are going to have to collect them all! These cake pops are the perfect simple recipe to whip up for a movie night viewing! #client
