Make this warm Crock Pot Apple Cider and watch as it disspears!
Ingredients
For the crock pot
8 - 9 large apples, or 10- 11 small ones, assorted
1 large orange
3 whole cinnamon sticks
2 tspn nutmeg
2 tspn whole cloves
2 tspn allspice
water to fill the crock pot
brown sugar, honey or sweetener of choice to taste (you can add ¼ brown sugar to your pitcher before serving)
For Serving
apples to core out, about 12 -15 per pitcher
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp butter
dash of cinnamon
cinnamon sticks
whole cloves
Instructions
Spray the inside of your crock pot with a non stick spray to make clean up easier. Chop apples and the orange, seeds, stems and all, and toss them in the crock pot. Add orange, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, cloves and allspice. Fill with water to an inch before the top. Cook on high 4 hours or low 6-8 hours. About an hour before finishing, add brown sugar or other sweetener to mixture. Using a potato masher, mash the mixture in the crock pot. Once completely mashed, pour entire crock pot through a strainer into a pitcher that can withstand the heat of the liquid. You can add sweetener to taste in the pitcher as well.
Meanwhile, core your apples leaving at least ¼ - ½" inch of core at the bottom so they don't leak. Melt butter and brown sugar in microwave. Brush mixture around the rim and bake in a 350 degree oven for just a few minutes to melt. Pull out and add apple cider to the apple. Add a whole cinnamon stick and a few whole cloves and enjoy!
