**This conversation is brought to you by Visionworks. My experience and my opinion are my own.**
I finally have to admit that I need glasses. I am 43, after all, and sit in front of a computer all day running ADayinMotherhood.com. So to say my eyes have started to show wear is kind of an understatement. I notice it most at night trying to read street signs when driving. But throughout the day I find myself holding paper away from me to read it, squinting at the TV menu from far away and my eyes lacking focus. So it was time. But where to go? Glasses are expensive, after all, but the buy off the shelf ones at the store did not seem to be enough for me. So I headed to my local Visionworks to see what they had to offer! Their current coupons and Buy One, Get One offer was very appealing to me!
Before I headed that way, I happened to call my insurance company on another matter. While talking to them, they mentioned that I have a Davis Vision discount plan built into my insurance. Not a vision plan, which you can get, but a plan that comes with my usual medical insurance. I had no idea, to be honest. It gives me a discount on eye exams and glasses! Visionworks takes it and so does the Optometrist next to my location. So, armed with the knowledge that I had some help on costs, I headed that way for my first eye appointment in 13 years.
On the way I realized my children had never had a professional eye exam. They have had screenings at school, but nothing with a Doctor. Visionworks is aware that kids are lacking in this area, especially kids in need. They want to do something to help all kids get the annual eye exams they need! That is why they launched the Let’s Go See program!
Many U.S. families do not have the means to afford vision care for their children. For that reason, Visionworks is committing to provide 10,000 FREE Eye Exams & Eyeglasses to children in need in the next school year (August 2015 – July 2016). Since 80% of everything children learn comes through their eyes**, it is no surprise that 60% of students classified as “problem learners” have undetected visual problems*.
In love this program and I love that you can nominate a school/organization/child in need for a free eye exam and pair of glasses via www.letsgosee.net. Learn more on the website to see how you can qualify to get the exams for your kids or how to help others you know need them too!
Heading out of the vision doctor’s office with my eyeglass prescription, I loved that Visionworks was right next door. It took less than 15 minutes to run all of the test and to find out that my left eye is great but my right one is causing vision issues. So, armed with my RX, I was immediately greeted by the store manager who was more than receptive to help me choose some glasses.
As a ‘newbie’, the selection process would have been overwhelming if it were not for the manager. With brands like Kate Spade, Bebe and Guess, the style factor is not lacking. With the Buy One pair of Rx glasses and get one free, I had an even larger job of choosing the right ones! Luckily, you guys on Facebook and Instagram were very helpful!
I finally chose two pairs of glass frames, one for daytime, one for night style, and sat down to complete my order with the lenses. It turns out that with coupons found on my cell phone (**deals will vary per location and day) on the Visionworks page and the buy one, get one deal, I saved more on my two pairs of glasses than if I had used my insurance discount program! So for less than the cost of one of the pairs of glasses, I walked out with the knowledge that in a few weeks, I will have two pair of quality glasses that will look great on me!
I really enjoyed my experience at Visionworks and am glad they they are in my neighborhood for anything I might need eye wear wise! The staff was informative and professional and they did everything they could to work within my limited budget!
