Dinner Made Easy – and Fast – with Kroger Brand Foods

When it is time to go to the grocery store, I always choose Kroger first.  I have for years.  They have great prices, great sales and the store is always clean and easy to navigate.

For years, I have used the Kroger Brand in my house.  Usually, they are a lot less than the big name brands and they are always really delicious.  Plus, Kroger has such a variety of products that an easy dinner can be made in no time!

Kroger Brand Dinner

The other day I was seriously needing a balanced meal but knew that my schedule was not going to allow for a lot of time in the kitchen.  Luckily,  I had just been to the store and picked up a Kroger brand pork roast, some Kroger microwavable mashed potatoes,. some Kroger Crescent rolls and some Kroger Cupcake mix and icing!

I grabbed my crock pot, the pork roast, some carrots and onions and threw them all in.  Tip: Be sure to spray the crock pot inside first with cooking spray to avoid sticking and for easier clean up!  Literally, it took 5 minutes.  The real work was cutting the onion.  But only because the dang thing made me cry!  Be sure to add some liquid-  either water or a broth – to the pot as well!  I eyeball it but use just enough so you can see the

I set the crock pot to cook on low and left it in for 6 – 8 hours.  By the time dinner time came, it was ready!

My 5 year old wanted to help me make dinner, as usual, that night so I opened the can of Kroger Crescent Rolls and let her try her hand at them.  She did a GREAT job and I now have a permanent roller in my house!  LOL

While the rolls were cooking, I grabbed the mashed potatoes and threw them in the microwave for less than 5 minutes.  My kitchen smelled SO good between the roast, the rolls and the potatoes.  Even my kids came to dinner without a fuss or excuse.

When everything was done, I shredded the super tender pork roast with a fork, placed it on the plate, added the veggies that were also so tender, some taters, the rolls and we were ready to eat!  My kids ate EVERYTHING!!  Did you see that?  EVERYTHING!!!

And I had leftovers for days to reheat, make sandwiches with and more.

Next time you are at Kroger, pick up some of their name brand things that are designed to make your wallet happier, your family smile and your time more for you.  And make this crock pot recipe-  it is SOOOO good!

CoverGirl & Kroger: A Beautiful Pair

Thank you to Kroger and CoverGirl for sponsoring this review. While CoverGirl provided me with a $30 gift card to purchase CoverGirl products at Kroger stores, the opinions I’ve expressed here are solely my own, represent my honest viewpoint, and not that of CoverGirl, Kroger, or Proctor & Gamble. I am making no claims about the products, just expressing my thoughtful opinion. Clever Girls Collective supports Blog With Integrity.

*******************************************

I think I am a pretty normal mom.  I spend most of my day taking care of my children’s need and the evening spending time with my husband.  When I do get time alone, I am cleaning, or blogging, or catching up on something I am behind on.

Taking care of me tends to take a back seat!

So when Kroger offered me a gift card to go to their store and load up on CoverGirl make up, something I need desperately, I jumped at it!

I already knew that Kroger would have the lowest prices on CoverGirl in my area.  Every week when I am there shopping, I pass the make up aisle and see the bright yellow signs advertising that they sell CoverGirl for 25% off every day, no matter what!

So, for $30, I knew I could pretty much do up my whole face with quality make up!

I grabbed my gift card, waved good-bye to my kids and husband, and headed to my Kroger in Houston, TX.  I waved at the all familiar staff as I walked in and headed to the aisle that I usually pass because I am in a hurry to get things for my family.

I looked at every product that CoverGirl carried.  So many choices!  I took my time and enjoyed my search.

After assessing the amazing prices on every item, I picked the following:

AquaSmooth Ivory Make Up Foundation Regular Retail = $7.99   Kroger price $5.99

CoverGirl Professional Loose Powder.   Regular Retail = $5.99   Kroger price = $4.49

CoverGirl Exact Eyelights in vivid greens  Regular Retail = $7.99  Kroger price = $5.99

LashBlastLength extreme length mascara Regular Retail = $8.50  Kroger Price = $6.37

CoverGirl Cheekers Blush Regular Retail = $4.29  Kroger Price = $3.22

CoverGirl LipPerfection lipstick Regular Retail = $7.49   Kroger Price = $5.62

I took a look at my haul, realized that I had enough make up to do up my whole face for just about $30 before tax and headed to the check out to see if that was, in fact, the case!

I watched as the cashier rang up my six items and was thrilled when the total came out to be just $33.21!  Which means that I just made myself pretty for pretty cheap!

And when I looked at my receipt, I saw that, in fact, I had saved the 25% that Kroger had advertised!  Without their every day sale prices, I would have paid $42.25 for the exact same products!  And I can think of a lot of things I would rather spend my savings of $9.04 on!

Like a new hair accessory to top off my new, made up face!

Kroger’s New Coupon Policy: The Truth

It came out this week that in Mid – April, a popular grocery store in Houston, TX – Kroger – will do away with it’s policy to double coupons up to $.50 and triple them to $.39.

I love Kroger.  I always have.  And I am a couponer.   I’ll never be featured on television for my couponing expertise, but I do save my family, on average, 55% a week.  I don’t think that is too shabby.

So when I originally heard about the couponing change, I was in an uproar.  I even posted on my Facebook page that my money saving days were over. I talked to my neighbor about changing where I shopped and whined to my husband about the hard work I put into saving money just to have it *poof* – go away!

And then I looked at my receipts.

I keep the good ones as badges of honor, I suppose, plus there is always a $100 gift card entry form and a woman can dream, right?

This week, on Sunday night, I gathered up my grocery list, my coupons, and my exuberance and headed to my Kroger.  I shopped happily – listening to the ‘ka – ching’ in my head as I mentally added up the savings.

At check out, my receipt reflected my efforts!

My bill was $329.34.  A bit of panic went through me as I clutched my coupons – it always does.  And then the checker scanned my Kroger card.

We stood and watched as the card took off $120.44 – just like that.  I had 100 items that qualified for a GREAT program they call the “Mega Event”.  Buy 10 participating items, get $5 off instantly at check out.  That, plus the items being on sale saved me 36% right off the bat.

And now for the coupons.

Ding. Ding. Ding. Ding.  And on it went.  I diligently watched as some doubled and some tripled.

By the time he was done, another $88.96 was off my bill.  All coupons.

My total bill was $119.94.  A 64% savings.

Not too shabby!

As I proudly patted my back on my coupon knowledge as I left the store, I remember thinking that Kroger’s coupon policies ROCKED!  And, mind you, no other store in our area has the double/ triple coupon policy.

So, as you can imagine, I was distraught over the news that they would stop. Until I looked at my receipt.

In reality, out of the $209.40 that I saved, only $4.50 was from double and triple coupon bonuses.

YES – you read that right!  Only $4.50.  Everything else was face value or a Mega Deal or on sale.

In fact, as I look through my last 4 receipts, the most I have saved on the double and triple coupon policy is $5.40.

So, though I understand everyone’s frustrations and irritations at the changes at Kroger, effective April 13, I see it from a different perspective. Coupons are still going to have value and I am still going to save big at the grocery store. And yes, the change takes money out of people’s pockets and $4.50 might be a lot to some.  But the policy will not take away the bulk of the coupons value, the fact that you can use it, and the other in store deals that save a person the most.

And that, at least from my very long receipts, is the truth about the new Kroger Coupon policy.
