One of the hardest things to do as a parent is to know how to raise a confident daughter. Though they start their lives off full of confidence, it seems to slowly go away as they grow older. Think of that fun little baby that took her first steps, and that excited toddler that wasn’t afraid to do or say anything.

Unfortunately, somewhere between preschool and middle school and a confusing blend of new social pressures, girls seem to lose their self confidence. There are so many mixed signals from society such as “Do your best” “don’t draw too much attention to yourself,” or “You can be anything you want to be – but don’t forget that looking pretty is your top priority.” All of these things can cause your daughter to fall behind academically or lose their confidence. Here are a few ways to make sure that doesn’t happen:

How to Raise a Confident Daughter!

Use every opportunity to point out powerful and influential women. Be sure to show your daughter the female doctors, lawyers, or athletes that have the ability to make a huge impact.

Although you might be learning how to raise a confident daughter, it’s important that you teach her to express her needs to adults and always stand her ground with peers. Kids can be mean and cruel. Make sure your daughter knows how to stand up for herself.

Don’t be so quick to help your daughter with homework or chores. Let her try working through it for a couple more minutes before you jump in. This will encourage her to pursue things on her own later in life.

Make sure your daughter feels good in her body. This will totally boost her confidence. Make sure you always remind her of how pretty she is inside and out. Try to highlight her actions, too. Letting her know how great she did at soccer or gymnastics is a great way to accomplish that.

There are many ways you can raise your daughter to have confidence. Girls these days get so many mixed messages about who they are. You can be her guide and help her to understand she can be anything she wants to be and do anything she wants to do.
