The Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena, CA Puts Style Back in Sophistication #LanghamPasadena #DisneyOzEvent

There were so many amazing things that happened on my trip to California for the Oz the Great and Powerful World Premier that I almost forgot to tell you about the amazing, beautiful, elegant and classy hotel that we stayed in.

Langham Huntington Pasadena Hotel #DisneyOzEvent

It is a hotel you have heard of if you watched The Bachelorette get married last year.   Ashley and J.P. tied the knot in the very hotel we stayed.  We even got to see the ballroom where the reception was help!

The Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena, California is simply exquisite.  Elegance drips from the halls and sophistication and style mold themselves to every crevice as no detail is overlooked in the rooms or in the common areas.

Entering the hotel you are immediately a special guest.  The staff tends to your every need with a smile and makes you feel right at home.  They meet you at the car and you are treated like the only one there from that moment on.  Now, I know that a lot of hotels have amazing staff.  But the genuine friendliness struck me as the norm here and I felt it through my entire stay.

Langham Huntington Pasadena Hotel #DisneyOzEvent

Before we got the keys to our rooms, we sat out in the large, beautiful courtyard and soaked in the fresh air and sunshine that California is famous for.  The trees were blooming and we felt spoiled in the cloak of flowers gently swaying in the breeze.

When I did enter my room, my smile beamed at the feeling of ultimate luxury that was going to spoil me for the days to come.  My room was spacious and my view unobstructed and breath taking.  I watched as people milled around the back of the hotel on the sidewalks and lush grounds as I stood up above in my room.  I did not want to leave it, to be honest.  The warm, inviting bed did not have three children in it and the large television would not have Dora or Spongebob on it.

But there was so much to explore that I had to get out and look around.

I found the indoor/ outdoor bar to be charming and the perfect place to relax after a long day.  And the poolside restaurant where I enjoyed a delicious lunch was straight out of a movie set.

The Langham Pasadena is enough off the beaten path to give you the privacy and getaway you need but close enough to attractions and spots to see that you still get to tour Pasadena and the surrounding cities and enjoy your vacation.

Next time you are headed to California make sure you check into the Lanham Pasadena.  You’ll be cloaked with old time charm and style with the flare of modern sophistication.

Joey King: An Interview with a Talented Actress on the Rise with Oz The Great and Powerful #DisneyOzEvent #ChinaGirl

Sometimes as a mom, I see little girls that are older than my three and I think, “Wow, I hope my daughter’s turn out to be as amazing as she is.”

Joey king #DisneyOzEvent #ChinaGirl

Sitting down and talking to Joey King who plays ‘China Girl’ in the already blockbuster film, Oz The Great and Powerful, is such a young lady.  I could not get over that she is only 13.  This young lady is mature beyond her years, intelligent, beautiful and professional.  But she still also displays that youth and childhood that you would think would be lost as a childhood starlet.

Her laugh is infectious, her smile bright and endearing and her personality lovable.  She talked with great respect and adoration for her mother and shared little pieces of what it is like to be on set with stars and talent like those in Oz The Great and Powerful.

Joey king #DisneyOzEvent #ChinaGirl

I absolutely LOVED her and think that her work in the movie is amazing.  She gave China Girl (Tweet to her on Twitter at @JoeyKingActress and #ChinaGirl) emotion, humor and character.  Not the easiest thing, I would not think!

I was so completly honored to sit down with her along with 24 other #DisneyOzEvent bloggers and ask her our most pressing questions.  Below are some of my favorite answers.

{Creative editing for conversation flow done}

How did you get involved with the project?

I auditioned for it and I really loved it.  It was so exciting for me, and magical, ‘cause I’m a huge fan of the original movie.  When I went to the screen test, I got to meet Sam there.  And it was just amazing.  I wanted to be a part of it really badly because it seemed like such a fun thing to do, and it was just a breathtaking movie.

Were any of the actresses like your mom on set?

Michelle Williams is more like my mom or more like my sister.  Michelle was really funny because she has a daughter Matilda, and she wanted to know things like how old was I was when I got to wear heels.   So she was asking me a bunch of things.  And one time when she asked me how old I was when I got my phone.  ‘Cause I don’t want to give Matilda a phone too early or too late. And I told her I got my phone at 10-years-old  and She goes, ten, really?  That’s early!  I’m just like, no it’s not!  So she wanted to ask me a few things  and she was more like a mom figure to me.

Joey king #DisneyOzEvent #ChinaGirl

Do you have a China Girl doll yet?

I’m working on getting it.   I really want one because she’s so cute, and I think it’d really fun to show my family.

What did you think of your finished character when you saw the movie for the first time?

When I saw the movie, ‘cause that was, um, at the premier, that was the first time I’d seen it.  I had only seen about 20 minutes of it before.  But it was really, it was really exciting for me, because I got to play two characters. I played, um, a little girl in a wheel chair in Kansas, and then I played, uh, China Girl in the Land of Oz. So it was really cool to see how everything came together, and how they did China  Girl, ‘cause what they did was they used, um, like, CGI technology, and they filmed my face, and attached my expressions onto China Girl.  So it was really, it was like I was watching myself, like, kind of, but in an animated character.

What was your favorite part about the movie?

There’s so many great parts about filming that movie, ‘cause it was just really exciting for me and I loved everything about the script.  I love the original!  One of my favorite parts was just getting to work with everyone, like James, Mila, Zach, Michelle  and Sam Raimi is an amazing director and an amazing person.  I love the way he works and he catches every little detail.  He let us really play around with it.  And that made it just feel really more natural.  The cast was amazing.  Like I said, Michelle’s like more like a mom figure to me.  Zach is like a brother to me, and James is always teasing me on set.  Mila’s like a sister to me.  I love them all.

How do you balance your work with being a teenager?

A lot of people  ask me that and they ask ‘how do you balance it’ because  it must be hard doing this work and stuff.  It’s ’s actually a lot of fun for me to come here and do this. It’s exciting for me.  I love going away and filming, ‘cause I usually have to travel.  And when I come home, I get to see my friends and I get  to hang out with them and do fun things a lot.  But this is what I love to do and  it’s basically just like being a kid for me, being a teenager.  It’s part of who I am and I love it.

Can you tell us about the swear jar?

Uh, yeah!  You know, actually I did the swear jar on Oz, the Great and Powerful.  You know what? My mom was the one who put the most money in it.  Which was funny because she, she swears more  than the cast and crew. It’s kind of funny when they swear but in a good way.  ‘Because I didn’ keep the money.  I donated to Meals on Wheels which is a charity that my grandma volunteers for. I go and deliver with her a lot.  It’s where you deliver meals to elderly people who can’t get out of their home. Everyone had to be careful, but you know, it’s fine.   So it was more being able to do that for them.   And so doing the swear jar was kind of a funny thing, in a way.  But also it was a really nice thing.

Mila Kunis: An Interview with A Witch, A Woman & An Inspiration #DisneyOzEvent

I have a confession to make.  Before I started hearing about the people we were going to interview while at the Oz The Great and Powerful World Premier, I had not heard of Mila Kunis.  I mean, I knew she was a star in Hollywood, but I had not seen her movies and could not picture her in my head.

Oz The Great and Powerful #DisneyOzEvent

Boy, have I missed out!  This beautiful, versatile star is not only a most talented actor, as evidenced by her amazing portrayal of Theodora in this soon to be blockbuster releasing March 8, 2013, but she is an amazing person to meet face to face.  How do I know this?  Because I had the ultimate pleasure of meeting and interviewing her with 24 other mom bloggers in a stately ballroom at the Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena, CA.

I have to say, this was a fantastically fun interview.  Ms. Kunis is funny, down to Earth, witty and mature beyond her years!  She is the kind of woman that you invite over for dinner, share a glass of wine with, and laugh until your sides hurt at her quick remarks and hysterical outlook on life!

She came in truly baffled at a room full of mom bloggers.  She asked ‘When did this start?” and seemed really enthusiastic to talk to a group that was not your ‘normal’ interview.  Tall and thin, her dark hair framing her beautiful face, her smile was infectious, her laugh boisterous for a delicate looking woman and her personality larger than the room we sat in.

Below are some of my favorite questions and answers had during the interview.

{Creative editing done for flow of content}

What was your experience  -with the Wizard of Oz – as a kid?

I came to America when I was seven and a half in 1991.  I think the first full length book in English that I read was Return to Oz. And I’ve spoken about this completely independent of this movie prior to ever being attached to this film; that as a kid, the first movie that I remember seeing that resonated with me was the Wizard of Oz.  I think just visually the color, the spectrum of it and how fantastical it was and how much you wanted to live in that world, for a nine year old was so magical and so grand so I have the greatest, fondest memories of it.

How are you experiencing the family genre?

Well I’m in a room full of mommies so let’s be clear, this is new. (Laughter)

Do you feel a different response?

Yeah, I can’t curse.  No truthfully, the mouth is gonna get so mad, you guys, you don’t even know.  The truth is, oddly enough, here’s what I realized.  I though the questions would be a little bit more demure like from not you guys but from other (outlets) and, they’re not.  They’re just as obnoxious and awful as when you do an R rated film so I learned nothing changes. People will still ask you inappropriate questions. Disney or not. So in order to answer it, do I feel like there’s a difference in promoting it?   Apparently not.  They still put you in a room with these people that apparently have no difference whether you’re making a family driven show or otherwise.  But I do realize it’s very sad to me.  This is the first film I’ve done that’s not R rated. It’s a really weird connection.

What was your favorite scene?

What was my favorite scene to do?  It wasn’t the waterfall sequence I’ll tell you that ‘cause it was dirty. But my favorite? I think appearing in Glinda’s castle is really fun for me just ‘cause it was an extra ten day to shoot. It was a long day. Hindsight 20, 20 was really fun.  If you asked me while I was there I probably would have been miserable but it was really fun to do. Michelle and I never had anything to do other than that one scene and we really wanted to work with one another and that was our one and only opportunity to do it.

Did you like the technical aspects of the film?

You know what?  It actually wasn’t so hard. I mean I think people prepared me for like a lot of green screen. I didn’t have a lot of green screen. They build most sets.  This castle was tangible, Emerald City was tangible, the forest, the woods was tangible, the cemetery, everything was there. So it’s not like I had to imagine things.  As far as wire work goes, I had fun with it. The next project that I’m doing is a lot more wire work so I’ll let you know after that one but in this one it was really fun.

Oz the Great and Powerful #DisneyOzEvent

Do you feel in a different place with fans?

I hope so. I don’t know. I’ll let you know when it comes out. I really don’t know. you know, I come from television where I feel like I’m in people’s living rooms every day so it’s not crazy for me to think that like a ten year old would know, but, I don’t know.

Do you have the doll?

I do.

Do you play with it?

I just got it two days ago. It’s still in the box. I won’t lie.  I’ve shown it to everybody that walks into the house because let me be clear. It’s not just a doll, it’s a Disney doll.   I’m like ‘hey you guys, have you seen this?’  Check this out! See this. Like I don’t even care. Everybody that walks I’m like showing the doll because it’s a Disney doll. It’s insane. It’s insane. But no it’s still in its box. I think you can buy it at Target.  Not to say that I know these things but I think you may.

What age would you say is appropriate for children to see this movie?

Oh, I don’t know.  I don’t.  I think that what kids watch now a days is different than what kids watch when I was young so I don’t know. I think that it’s up the parent.  That’s the truth. I’m not a parent. I have no idea, but I think some parents let a ten year old watch it and some parents wouldn’t. I have no say in it.  Listen, it’s a little spooky at times ‘cause like it’s 3D and things poke out at you but like  they can see that on the internet.  It’s not not frightening for children now a days. But I don’t know.

Mila Kunis #DisneyOzEvent

As we all gather for a photo with Ms. Kunis, she continued to marvel at the fact that she had just done an interview with “Mommy Bloggers”.  She was so endearing and so down to Earth.  You will absolutely love her in this movie and I want to know how much!

As she left, our rep that we were with told us that she asked her publicist why she could not do interviews like ours more often.  She thought it was so refreshing and fun.  That made our day and we will eternally be grateful to Mila Kunis for being so incredibly cool!

Rachel Weisz: An Interview with A Witch that is the Ultimate Lady #DisneyOzEvent

A statuesque woman with a small and delicate face with perfectly proportioned features walked into the ballroom where me and 24 other bloggers sat, ready to ask questions that had been swirling in our heads since seeing her amazing and convincing performance in Oz The Great and Powerful.

Rachel Wiesz #DisneyOzEvent

This movie, with amazing special effects, will be a blockbuster with thanks to the creative cast that makes the movie shine.  Rachel Weisz, playing Evanora, an evil witch bent on eliminating Glinda, plays her character to perfection.  Seemingly bad to the bone and aiming to be meaner by the end, she captures the delicate balance of making you love and loathe her at the same time.

See her in this new clip below:

As I sat down in the room with the ‘mommies’, as most of the stars dubbed us, I anxiously awaited this elegant star.  And when she walked in, gracious and kind with a smile brighter than the chandelier hanging over head, I could not wait to hear what she had to say about this soon to be iconic role that she played so well.

{Creative editing made to enhance conversation flow}

So, you were so deliciously evil.

She’s bad, isn’t she? [LAUGHS]

What did you like slipping into more, the costumes or the character?

You know what? It’s weird.  They were kind of like the same the thing. When I put that costume on I became that character.  I couldn’t have played her without that corset, and sequence, and feathers, and lashes, and lips, and pushed up boobs, and, you know, the whole thing, yeah.   Yeah, the costume was huge, huge part of the character, and it was very fun to be so nasty. [CHUCKLES]

Because you were so nasty, how did you feel about knowing this is a children’s film and yet you’ve gotta be pretty badass out there?

Well, I think fairy tales traditionally have really, really evil characters.  Like all the Grimm’s fairy tales have got bad people in them, so I think kids are  used to evil characters.  And I, I think she’s dark, but she’s having a lot of fun being bad.  So, I think it’s like Disney bad.  I don’t think it’s really, really bad.

What was your most memorable moment while filming?

Well, Evanora really enjoyed torturing Glinda, when she was chained] in the Emerald City and I did, too. It was just really fun.  I mean I get along brilliantly with Michelle.  Michelle is a  fellow mom, and she’s a lovely lady, but that was just a really fun scene being that bad. And then just pure fun without being evil was flying. Flying is really fun, kinda a little scary and quite exciting, like having a really good rollercoaster ride.

Speaking of flying, how much flying and stunt work did you actually do?

All of it.

Are you in all of it?

I didn’t think there was any flying that isn’t me. Yeah, they didn’t head replacement or anything. It’s me all the way.

ME: I have a lot of readers asking about age appropriateness for the movie.  And I’m saying around eight or so, but as, as a mom, yourself, what age would you think is appropriate to take your children?

is different, and I think every mom knows their kid.

Oh, God. don’t know. I mean, every kid  is different and I think every mom knows their kid. I mean some kids are really, really sensitive but I don’t think there’s anything too scary for little kids.  I’d probably go a bit younger than eight, but then I think it’s up to a mom to decide.

Rachel Weisz #DisneyOzevent

Did you feel nervous at all accepting this role as a prequel to the the Oz legacy?  Were you a little bit nervous jumping in there?

I’m nervous at any role that I do [CHUCKLES], because there’s the fear that you might, you know, suck.  And I wouldn’t really do a role unless I wasn’t nervous about it, because that’s what’s exciting is trying something new, and I’ve never done anything like this. I’ve never played a fantasy character.  Of late I’ve been doing very kind of gritty, earth-bounds, gals with no makeup, and very different kinds of things.  So, for me it was scary, ’cause it’s a new but that was a plus for me working.

What’s your personal relationship with Oz?  I mean did you watch it as a kid?

I remember going to the cinema to see it when I was about five, and I vividly remember the seat in front of me and trying to see over and hiding.  I mean witches really terrified me.  They are seared into my mind as properly terrifying, but I don’t know.  I mean I think it’s to teach children about good and evil and morality, and I think there’s a [STUTTER] — there’s a reason why there’s been for  hundreds of years the tradition of children being — seeing scary [CHUCKLES] things.  I don’t think it’s  damaging, fairy tales.  I think they are kind of like important, archetypal stories.  But yea, I remember vividly seeing it.  It’s one of those movies you never forget.

This was a wonderful day full of once in a lifetime moments for me.  And I thank Ms. Weisz for sitting down as an actress,a woman and a mother to talk to us and let us in to her thoughts on this movie, how it affects children and how deliciously fun it was to be so darn evil!

I Wore Jewelry by Diamonius.com on My Red Carpet Walk for Oz The Great and Powerful

Diamonius.com

A week or so ago I got to dress up and cruised the Red Carpet, photo bombing Mila Kunis along the way, at the Oz The Great and Powerful World Premier.  I was dressed to the nines and was feeling like I really belonged there!

One of the reasons I felt so unique and glamorous was because of the amazing jewelry I was wearing!

Diamonius.com

Diamonius.com was generous enough to send me their Duchess Necklace and Duchess Earrings to sport with my dress on the Red Carpet.  The day I received it, I, literally, swooned!  I took photos and sent it to anyone and everyone I could think of.  These were really beautiful pieces created from the inspiration from Princess Diana’s engagement ring that now rests on Kate, the Princess of Cambridge’s, finger.  Check out the diamond simulant ring that goes with the set, too!

Diamonius.com

If you have never heard of Diamonius.com then you need to favorite the website now!!

Diamonius uses only the highest quality lab created diamond simulants as substitutes for naturally mined diamonds. Diamonius diamond simulants truly capture all the brilliance and luxury of mined diamonds. Our Diamonius diamond simulants will not fade, discolor or cloud. Our diamond stimulants are colorless and flawless. Diamonius diamond simulants are visually indistinguishable from a mined diamond except by specialized gemologist equipment. Synthetic diamonds are to follow.

Every woman should have the opportunity to own extraordinary jewelry that is conflict-free, and has no negative environmental, economic or humanitarian effects. Diamonius’ philosophy is to provide all women with their dream jewelry at an affordable price without compromising luxury or elegance. We enable fashionistas to wear $150-200 rings that look visually identical to $2000-$8000 rings.

Now, I have to say, I am not a huge jewelry wearer.  In my daily life, earrings and necklaces and rings get tugged on and are the one thing I own that my girls always want to wear.  But my other conflict is that I really can not afford to get really nice jewelry and the costume stuff I do have falls apart or discolors way too easily.

The Diamonius jewelry that I received felt… well, real!  The weight of the stone is heavy on the necklace and the settings are tight and secure.  There are no loose prongs to snag or bother me and, the way these settings are made – with as much care as the priceless heirloom they mimic – clearly enhances the high quality look and style of the pieces.

On the big night, where I would be just feet from beautiful and elegant women wearing their own expensive pieces, I put on my Duchess Necklace and Earrings and instantly felt amazing!  That is what jewelry should do, after all.  Not only did the pieces completely enhance my outfit, but I received so many compliments from the other bloggers that I felt truly unique.

Diamonius.com

I wore my Diamonius Jewlery proudly all through the evening, the amazing movie, and the after party where I watched as Rachel Weisz chatted up Michelle Williams, Ashton Kutcher and other stars that I could not believe I was in the same room with.  I could not wait to get home and write my diamonius review!

It was a truly magical evening and it was made even more special by my amazing jewelry.

If you have an eye for the elegant and beautiful, and the desire to have jewels around your neck that didn’t hurt the environment to create, but the budget that goes more towards food in the house than expensive jewels in your ears, then bookmark Diamonius.com and shop there first when you need a new piece.

From original rings, necklaces and earrings to replicas of the World’s most famous pieces, this online store has it all!

And a special thanks to them for making me feel more glamorous than a mommy blogger really is, but really needs to feel every once in a while!

Sam Raimi: A Director With A Vivid Imagination Treats Us to an Oz the Great and Powerful Interview #DisneyOzEvent

Sam Raimi, who brought us Spiderman, is an unassuming, thoughtful man with an imagination that could swallow the world. And, in fact, in his upcoming film – soon to be the acclaimed picture that it deserves to be – Oz The Great and Powerful, his imagination does swallow the Emerald City and he treats us to every little detail that he can think of.

Sam Raimi #DisneyOzEvent

From the genius casting to the story told with the utmost respect for the past film, Sam Raimi touched and moved this prequel into cinematic creativity.  The bright colors, cleaver innuendos and ever so slight details make this film one you will have to see over and over again.

While in Hollywood for the World Premier, I was honored to sit down with 24 other bloggers – you can follow all of us at hashtag #DisneyOzEvent on Twitter – to talk to this legend in the making.  Though a bit less animated than his cast of characters that we also got to talk to, there was no doubt that this man’s solemn  professional stance could break out into a colorful, imaginative character of his own.

{Edits made to make content easier to follow}

How did it feel to have the weight of the Oz movie on your shoulders?

Oh, it was such a great sense of responsibility not to tread upon the good name and the beloved classic, The Wizard of Oz. It was a heavy responsibility. I did not wanna read the script.  When I heard it was a prequel to The Wizard of Oz I said, “I don’t wanna mess with that classic.” And so I didn’t read the script.  The And then a couple weeks later And somebody said, “Read this. It’s a writing sample.”

So under that auspices I read the script and I’m falling in love with this story and this world and these characters.  And so I thought, That’s why I gotta make this movie ‘cause I feel uplifted by the end of this thing.  Watching the main character learn.  This selfish guy found a little bit of goodness in his heart and learned how to become this selfless individual. that could be really uplifting for the audience.

So it’s really those things that drove me to make it.  I thought, “If that’s really what I make the movie about, I won’t be treading on the good name of The Wizard of Oz at all ‘cause it’s another positive story.” Yes?

Sam Raimi & James Franco #DisneyOzEvent

How did you make your judgment call on what was going to be too scary and how to reign back the scary so that that it still was a child’s or a family film?

That’s something I was weighing all throughout the process.  In the writing of the script I’d made sure there was no violence in the thing ‘cause I really wanted to make it a family picture.  in the thing.  The worst it gets is the baboons come out of the mist where they go looking for our main characters so they hide in the cave.  And there’s a scary witch at the very end but we changed the makeup once or twice to make it a little less scary.

But then I thought, you know, when I think back on ‘The Wizard of Oz’.  They used to show it like every Thanksgiving or every Christmas, I can’t remember which.  But I remember thinking, “This is the  sweetest movie I’ve ever seen. But it’s also the scariest.” [LAUGHS] So I tried to find a line like you’re saying where it’s scary for  the kids, but not so scary the parents think, “I  shouldn’t have brought my child to see this.”

Which character would you say it your absolute favorite out of all of them?

Well I — I — I admire Evanora.  The, uh, Rachel Weisz’s character because she’s so nasty. And she doesn’t try and hide it. I mean she, yes, she puts on illusions but she really digs who she is.  That’s like my mother, you know.

[INTERVIEWER INTERRUPTS]

On the record or off the record?

[LAUGHTER]

No, it’s alright.  My mother knows who she is.  But I, I admire that about that character.  But I think I love James Franco’s character. There’s so much I can identify with personally. I understand wanting to become a better person..I mean it’s a dream.  Whether I’d ever have the courage of that character to do what he did I don’t know. But I can relate to the character.  I understand his failings and his simple desires and his low qualities.

And I love the China Girl. She’s, for me, my sweetheart.  Yes.

Sam Raimi #DisneyOzEvent

How different was it working on this movie as opposed to other movies that you done before?

Well the size of it was enormous.  That took some getting used to.  Because the Land of Oz is how Frank Baum wrote it, it was — it has such impassible deserts, fantastical waterfalls, outrageous mountains and woods.  We couldn’t really go and shoot Ireland and let it work for the green hills or we couldn’t shoot some great New Zealand mountainscape ‘cause it just wasn’t outrageous and unique enough.  So everything had to be created in the computer.

And working with the great production designer, Robert Stromberg, he did that by creating the smallest things first. The smallest blade of grass. What does it look like in Oz? What does the smallest blossom look like? And then multiplying by a thousand to see what a field might look like. And everything had to be created.  There was not a pocket watch that should have been manufactured by some Swiss company. No, no, it had to be an Oz watch. Every car had to be handcrafted.  So the enormity of building a world was the most difficult job.

It was a great honor to be in the room with a really unique Hollywood Director!  Don’t miss Oz the Great and Powerful hitting theaters in 3D March 8, 2013!

Michelle Williams is A Mom Trying to Balance it All; An Interview with the Oz The Great and Powerful Star #DisneyOzEvent

Before Michelle Williams, the stunning actress who plays the role of Glinda the Good Witch in the amazing film, Oz the Great and Powerful, sat down in a room full of mommy bloggers and answered our questions, I thought her to be untouchable.  Surely a woman with her grace and stature would be different than me.  But of the stars that we were lucky enough to interview for this deliciously creative and fantastical film, Ms. Williams was the one that I most wanted to get to know.

Michelle Williams #DisneyOzEvent

Fiercely private and notoriously closed lipped about everything from her private life to her motherhood, I did not think that the question I wanted to ask would be answered.  I expected a very refined star to walk into the large ballroom where me and 24 other bloggers sat, laptops and phones buzzing with updated by the second for our readers, and to talk about Glinda and the movie and gloss over any questions that had anything to do with her personal life.

But when the door opened and this tall, thin, perfectly put together woman walked in wearing a black jacket and colorful shirt with a short skirt that complimented her fun pixie cut, I knew that my impressions of her were about to change.  She came in truly excited to be there, making comments that she had probably read all of our blogs – yes, Michelle Williams reads mommy blogs… pause for audible squeal – and waving frantically with a huge, friendly smile on her face.

She was so approachable, so real, so… like us, that we had no problem asking her whatever we wanted.  And she had no problem answering our questions with honestly, thought and detail.  Below are some of my favorite parts of her interview   Please know that as I relive this with you, my heart is bursting out of my chest with excitement and my respect for this Hollywood actress, real and kind-hearted woman…. that is a real mom too.

{appropriate edits made to clarify answers}

Are you prepared to have legions of little girls flocking around you?

I was thinking about delighting one young child {her daughter, Matilda}, and I didn’t realize there would be more than one.  And that’s, I mean, really what feels better in this whole world than making a kid smile? So, that’s fine with me!

How do you balance your career with motherhood?

{I asked this question and I have to describe her reaction.  She took a deep breath and sat back in her chair and seemed to really contemplate her answer.  It was at this moment that I realized that all mother’s, no matter who you are or your career path, exhaust themselves trying to get it right.  Below is her answer in detail}

I was afraid you might ask something like that.  I mean, how do you, how does anybody do it?  It is an Olympian undertaking.  What have I really learned?  Okay, what have I figured out?  They’re all such hard lessons, I find.  Like, when you really arrive at something that’s true and honest, it’s taken you so long to get there, and you had to work so hard for it.

Because it’s just not what you think it’s gonna be, and nobody really prepares you for it, and nobody really tells you the truth, which is that it’s not possible.  It is not possible to do both things well at the same time, especially not if you are exacting, and maybe a Virgo, and like, and ask a lot of yourself.   Every mother that I know asks a lot of themselves.  What I’m trying to wrap my head  around is to get comfortable with the moments, to get comfortable with the fact that it’s gonna feel like a scale, and I’m never gonna arrive at a perfect balance, and it’s always gonna be a give and take. Something’s always gonna feel like it’s suffering, it’s underserved.  Like you’re not being the best parent that you could be, or  you’re not being the best at your job that you could be . I’m really trying to get peaceful with the fact that I’m always going to feel like that and that is the equation for as long as I choose to or have to stay in this position where I work and where I parent. And that’s really hard on your heart.  It’s so hard.

It’s just so hard, [LAUGHS].  What are the tricks, what are the hints? It’s really overwhelming. I mean, I’d be more apt to ask you guys, What works for you?  What doesn’t?  What do you give up?

Me?  It’s a lot of work to clean a  house!  This is, like, a big epiphany for me recently.  I am not gonna wash my dishes before I put them in the dishwasher.  I find it so hard to make some time for myself.  And I spend fifteen minutes pre-washing?  I’m looking for time everywhere, in every corner, every day, and here I am, pre-washing my dishes.  Silverware, going in there. Why would I do that?  Not any more. Knives, going in there.

I try and buy back time where I can- try and figure out how to buy time.  A friend of mine said to me something that really stuck with me.  Everybody thinks that you should spend your time making money.  But I think you should spend your money making time.  Yeah.

Michelle Williams & Mom Bloggers #DisneyOzEvent

You were amazing (in the movie).  What was your inspiration?

Thank you. And I thought a lot about her.  I watched that movie (The Wizard of Oz)  passively for years, and watched it with my daughter.  Sam (Sam Raimi, the director of Oz The Great and Powerful) said something really interesting to me. He said there’s a reason that Glinda, the Good Witch doesn’t go down the Yellow Brick Road, and that she’s not on the journey, because she’s one dimensional. She needs to learn about herself, and thus she’s the least relatable character. We don’t wanna do that, you know. they’re on a journey with Glinda, too, and that she isn’t this sort of crystalized version who knew it all along. We want her to have struggle, we want her to be human.  But what does she have to struggle with because she doesn’t have a split nature.  How can she still be good, and innocent, and believe the best in people, but still have a struggle?

And obviously, she’s struggling for the freedom of these people, and she’s struggling a little bit with her own self doubt.  She’s a lot about transformation.  She’s in charge of these, um, these sort of refugees, but she doesn’t really know how to protect them and how to make them see.  So her story is about  transformation and how Glinda transforms these dark and dire situations.  I thought about her as somebody who  transforms tears into bubbles, that she makes the best out of a rotten situation because of a way that she chooses to look at it.  It’s not entirely human.

Glina Oz the Great and Powerful #DisneyOzEvent

If you wouldn’t mind taking a quick photo with them (the mommy bloggers), they would be honored.

Would they? [LAUGHS]

No, well, you guys, thank you. I feel like your blogs are like definitely helpful and needed.  I never really posted anything on a blog because I don’t really know how to, but I, I think every mother has the same question that we were all asking. How do you do it?  How do you be a mom, and be a parent, and maybe even try and be in a relationship. And in the end, to be yourself.  How do you make all of that work and providing this kind of conversation about it, and like this kind of access to it is awesome.  So thank you guys for doing it. You guys, thank you.

Thank YOU, Michelle Williams.  For you honestly, grace and your incredible talent that we get to witness coming March 8, 2013 in Oz The Great and Powerful!

My Oz the Great and Powerful World Premier Experience at the Amazing El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood #DisneyOzEvent

As I stepped out of the van with 12 other bloggers onto Hollywood Boulevard, I had to pinch myself.  Surely I was in the wrong place.  The dress I was wearing was really my typical TShirt and I was home, typing away on my computer, listening to my children play, living the experience in a dream.

Oz the Great and Powerful at El Capitan Theatre #DisneyOzEvent

But as I walked over star after star on Hollywood Boulevard, a sidewalk I have only seen on television, the reality hit me that I was, in fact, about to walk the Yellow Brick Carpet for the premier of the highly anticipated prequel, Oz The Great and Powerful.  And I could not have been more ecstatic!

Oz the Great and Powerful at El Capitan Theatre #DisneyOzEvent

As I walked to the amazingly beautiful  El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, I was taken in with the spectacle I was approaching.  The Oz Balloon was on display, marking the event to be as large and colorful as it really was.  As we approached, we passed the actual stairs that the stars climb on Oscar night.  We could not resist so 25 bloggers click clacked up for a shot of a lifetime.  I am way in the back but I don’t care.  I have a photo on the stairs of the Dolby Theater where the likes of Katherine Hepburn and Richard Gere and Julia Roberts have walked.

#DisneyOzEvent

We then headed to the main event.  The Red Carpet where the likes of James Franco, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, Zack Braff, Joey King and Rachel Weisz were walking and smiling and having their photos done.  I was sure that we would miss them all as we waiting for our tickets and badges, but I was thrilled to be there and planned on striking and “who is that crazy girl with the stupid smile’ pose as I sloooowwwwllllyyyy walked the carpet.

Oz the Great and Powerful at El Capitan Theatre #DisneyOzEvent

Imagine my incredibly surprise as I walked right past Mila Kunis striking a post and one of my favorite actresses on screen today, Michelle Williams looking delicate and regal all at once.  I snapped my photos, suppressed my squeals of excitement and savored every moment.  Things like this you want to remember when your 90.  And I wanted to imprint it deeply.  It seemed like the fastest three seconds in my life but must have taken ten to get all the way down and into the amazingly beautiful lobby of the famed El Capitan Theatre.

Oz the Great and Powerful at El Capitan Theatre #DisneyOzEvent

There was history here and I could sense it all around me.  Plush rich colors, architecture from old Hollywood and the classic and regal decor of a theatre that has shown more classic movies than any other I can think of in Hollywood.  I settled into the seat that Audrey Hepburn once sat in – well, I have no actual proof, but I just knew – and drank in the amazing sights in front of me.

Oz the Great and Powerful at El Capitan Theatre #DisneyOzEvent

The beautiful and colorful rich interior boasts an intricate Indian design.  At the time it was built, the Theatre was said to have cost $1.2 million to design.  Chump change these days, a steep price tag back in 1926. Closing in at 100 years old, the Theatre stands the test of modern tastes with the classic elegance of Hollywood past.  If you are in Hollywood and want to experience the amazing film, Oz the Great and Powerful, see it at the El Capitan Theatre and experience it like no where else!

I Got to Film Wreck It Ralph! Well… Sort Of #WreckItRalph #DisneyOzEvent

If you have read my blog, checked out my Facebook page or followed the hashtag #DisneyOzEvent, you know that I spent the better part of last week in Los Angeles doing press for Oz the Great and Powerful.  But there was another reason I  was excited to go on this trip.  And it had nothing to do with a tornado.

Wreck It Ralph Animation Day #WreckItRalph

Well, unless you call the lovable, indelible Bull in the China Cabinet, Wreck It Ralph, similar to a tornado!

I was so excited to spend the day at Disney’s Animation Studio meeting the amazing creators, the Riggers, the Animators and the Capture Video staff that made it all happen.

Honestly, I know so little about animated film making that I thought animators drew every single frame and that is why animated movies take so long to create.  I had no idea how many computers and electronics and art and story boards and people – 450 just for Wreck It Ralph – it takes to make a thought process a character and make that character a reality.

#WreckItRalph

So as I was guided through the coolest office ever – seriously, they have houses as offices, just so cool – I clung to every word that was said about every little detail.  We listened to the progressive explanation of Ralph himself, the details about making Venellope’s eyebrow’s low like Sarah Silverman’s and more.  As we made our way around, we met the most amazing and passionate people who gave us an idea of how animated the people behind the animations are.

One of my favorite rooms was the Rigging Room.  Now knowing what it was, I was excited to sit down and learn about the ever so detailed stage between story board art and full on animation.  I even got to sit at my own computer and make Ralph do something.  How did I do?  I think it is the Jive, but I’m not really sure!

So, rigging, as I understand it is giving an animated character the act of motion.  But the really cool room that we visited was the Camera Capture room.  Now, because characters are drawn or painted or created digitally, the process of giving them motion is  a challenge.  It takes many steps and people and real motion are involved.

#WreckItRalph

We entered a large room that had a taped off rectangle, several large television screen and 6  cameras up above.  The object of the game was to simulate the characters movements and then give them motion.  But Camera Capture also gives the characters in motion depth.  In this video of me operating the camera – they clearly were not told of my clumsy status – I could manipulate the camera to show the character with depth from behind, show the action as he ran and more.  It was really cool and though I am not a ‘technical’ kind of girl, I truly enjoyed learning all about the process. See how good I am at it?

Although, when I asked if I was hired, I was told NO.  Hmmmm….  guess I’d better not quit my day job!

Check out the slideshow below of some of my favorite shots from the day and stay turned for more Wreck It Ralph announcements and Oz the Great and Powerful posts!

I am on the hunt for some Ruby Red Slippers!  That is what every gal should wear when attending the Red Carpet Premier of OZ The Great and Powerful, isn’t it?

OZ The Great and Powerful #DisneyOzEvent

SQUUUUEEEE!!!!

Now, I don’t know about you, but I have been SO excited to see this movie since I heard it was hitting theaters March 8, 2013!  I LOVED the Wizard of Oz as a little girl and can not wait to see what this updated film has to offer!  I mean, just read a little about it below and tell me YOU are not super excited too?!!?

OZ The Great and Powerful

Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved wizard character. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful wizard but into a better man as well.

“Oz The Great and Powerful” is produced by Joe Roth, with a screenplay by Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire (credit not final). Grant Curtis, Palak Patel, Philip Steuer and Josh Donen are serving as executive producers. “Oz The Great and Powerful” opens in U.S. theaters on March 8, 2013.

Looks pretty good, right?

I will be traveling February 13 through the 15th and Disney has so much in store for me!  I will be staying at the – are you sitting down? – SAME hotel that The Bachelorette’s Ashley and J.P. got married in last month, The Langham Huntington Hotel!!  Don’t think for a second that I am not sharing every photo of that with you guys!

In addition – just GUESS where the premier is?  The FAMOUS El Capitain Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard!  This theater, built in 1926, has featured so many great Hollywood Films that I am sure the walls will talk!  I can not wait!  I actually have to pinch myself, guys!

And here is the MOST AWESOMEST PART – well, all of the parts are awesome but really, what little stay at home mom gets to sit down and interview James Franco, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz, Zach Braff, Joey King and Director Sam Raimi????

Yea… I know!!  Send questions now and I will try to ask them for you when I can actually form words around these awesome stars!

And to throw in more excitement, I’ll be screaming Wreck-It Ralph in anticipation of it’s in-home DVD release on March 5, 2013!

The Disney Magic: Eat Like a Princess #DCLTexas

A week ago I came back to the reality that chicken, macaroni and cheese and corn is a balanced, healthy dinner for my kids.  But for 8 days and 7 nights prior to that, I got to eat like a Princess.  It was made for me, delivered and beautifully plated.  And not one thing that I ate on The Disney Magic Cruise ship in their 3 amazing restaurants was not good!

Chocolate Pudding

So, just a little note.  In case you did not know, Disney Cruise Lines is the only line that offers rotational dining in three gourmet, 5 star restaurants.  A previous cruise I went on offered 1 free restaurant and you ate there every day for every meal unless you wanted to pay for the other places on board.  On Disney, you get to rotate from Animator’s Palace to Parrot Cay to Lumiere’s with a different theme and style of food every night.   It was so amazing!  And there is a kids menu that has the basics AND some fun new choice as well!

In addition, 24 hours room service to your Stateroom is F R E E!!!  Yea – you read that right.  There are some pay items – like popcorn – but the bulk of the food is FREE and delivered to your room.  Perfect for that late night need for milk if you are already in your jammies!

The Disney Magic

So, what better way to show you what you get than to show you!!  Enjoy the slide show of some of the amazing foods on The Disney Magic!  I know… they are mostly desserts ;)

I know the photos are dark but seriously, can’t you just TASTE the amazing foods?  You can tell from day one that the chefs aboard the Disney Cruise lines take great pride in serving amazing, eclectic, delicious food for every meal!

Want to go on a Disney Cruise?  Sail out of GALVESTON, TX!  Included in the 2013 schedule are trips to JAMAICA!!  Book now and take the family on an adventure that everyone will love!

Take an End of Summer Staycation with Embassy Suites

Here in Texas we have two more weeks of summer!  Two more weeks to craft and cook and play and plan something to make this summer memorable!  On a budget, of course!

As you know, I have enjoyed a few staycations this summer!  One of our favorite was our stay at Embassy Suites in Downtown Houston!  The rooms were beautiful, the service was great (especially their efforts to make up for a service error earlier in the trip) and the amenities were plenty.  By the time we left we really felt like we ‘got away’ even though the hotel was only 45 minutes from home!

There is still plenty of time for you to head to your city’s Embassy Suites and get more out of summer! It takes no time to book a room, throw a bathing suit in a bag and head out with your family for a relaxing weekend to wind down Summer 2012!

And, of course, while traveling anywhere this summer – at home or away – remember these valuable tips to make your trip even more enjoyable!

Find a balance between activities and vacation!  In the effort to relax as much as possible, don’t forget to relax!  I know – at least with my girls – I want to take and do and make sure they are having fun the entire time we are on vacation.  But I have to remember that the time away is for me too!  There is nothing wrong with letting the kids color or read books while I have some much needed down time!

Stay in a Hotel with as Many Ammenities as Possible!  The previous tip being said, I really need a place to stay where the kids have things to do!  At Embassy Suites, the pool, the hot tub, the kids area at the restaurant and the park across the street (Discovery Green in Houston, TX) are all perks that can help me wear my kids out entertain my little ones without having to pay extra for a theme park or other activity!  When calling to book a hotel for a staycation, ask what is available for kids both in and out of the hotel!

At Embassy Suites this summer, you can still enjoy the perks of a great get-a-way!  They are still offering the double room suites (SO great with kids!), the delicious cook to order breakfasts and the fun and FREE Manager’s reception where mom and dad can have an adult beverage!

All of the perks save money, time and the headache of figuring out how to fit a stay at Embassy Suites into your budget!  There is a reason that Embassy Suites was named one of the“10 Best Hotel Chains for Families of 2012“!  Gather your family and head out this weekend!

The Conversations with Coca Cola Conference Was Amazing #CCLP

First I have to start by saying that we were as spoiled as possible at the Conversations with Coca Cola Conference I attended earlier this month!  There was no detail left undone, no want left unattended to and complete amazement all around with how well we were treated!

That being said, the most important things that I got out of this conference which I was so completely honored to have been invited to, was that Coca Cola supports, promotes and understands women and women’s issues more than any other company I have ever seen.  Add to that their amazing dedication to health – YES health – and social and community support and you will, as I did, stand up and applaud what they are doing!

But, this conference was – surprisingly enough – not centered around Coca Cola at all!  I know – shocking, right?  Sure, there were the speakers and the red and white was everywhere (we were at their headquarters) but I felt that the conference was more about supporting and educating and promoting me and the other bloggers in a way that sometimes is lacking!

For example, the first speaker was one of us!  Megan Calhoun is the founder of an amazing blogger support network, SocialMoms.com.  When I started in this crazy business she was one of the first to give me a chance and let me use my social networking skills to get my name out there, as well as the name of her client.  I feel so strongly about what she is doing and how she is helping bloggers like me that I pulled her aside in the bathroom at the conference and thanked her.  Even with 30,000 mom bloggers in her network, she knew who I was and that impressed me!

I loved listening to how she “stumbled” upon this business and how, through focusing on her goals and maintaining a high quality of standards, she managed her network to substantial proportions.  And in a very short amount of time. While managing marriage, kids and taking care of herself as well!  I was a full circle moment for me as I listened to her explain the challenges and successes that she has had.  When she was done, I was more aware of how a mom can use her resolve and dedication to be all that she can be.

Topping Megan was going to be hard!  But Coca Cola pulled out all of the stops!  After an amazing lunch by Subway, it was time to work out!  Yes, work out at Coca Cola!  See, I told you it was not just all about Coke!

We were then introduced to a beautiful, inspirational and energetic woman who taught me something valuable in her time with us.  I AM worth it!  Monica Vazquez is the official trainer for Subway Restaurants and she is an inspiration because, before she made fitness her life, she worked hard to lose 65 pounds and KEPT IT OFF!

You KNOW that I hung on every word she said.  She is a real life woman with a real life story that we all can relate to!  She first talked about moderation… something I need to learn… and the importance of getting up and getting moving.  And the moving does not even have to involve the perfect clothing, fancy shoes and major work out routine that can drag us down on our busy days!  It can include just getting UP and getting moving!  Park in the last space in the parking lot!  Use milk jugs to “lift weights”, use your coffee table to do triceps lifts.  Whatever.  But a body in motion stays in motion!  Check out more of her story and tips on her website, FitnessbyMonica.com!

After our lunch and workout came the panel of women who were there to answer OUR questions, talk about their roles in Coca Cola and supporting women, families and communities all over the world and more.  I could not believe that I sat in front of such an amazing panel of powerful women and had free reign to ask anything I wanted!

So I did!

“On your climb to the top there must have been mistakes.  What advice would you give those of us who are trying to climb to the best we can be in our profession to avoid the same mistakes?

The answers were enlightening.  ’Know your limitations”.  ’Focus on one thing at a time.  If your with your kids, be with your kids.  If you are working, work.’ ‘Take time to enjoy what you are accomplishing.’

Not at all what I expected.  All of the women on the panel, from the Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications, Sonya Soutus to Ceree Eberly, senior Vice President and Chief People Officer -and a single mom juggling motherhood and work on the tightrope we can all relate to, the women were honest, open and real.

The panel was engaging, not afraid to speak their minds, open and honest about their struggles and left me feeling like we were all in it together.   As women, mothers and business people.  It was truly a highlight!

After the panel we got to take our inspired selves and make vision boards for where we wanted to go from here.  Both professionally, personally and creatively.  I LOVED this part of the day and was impressed with myself that I could even do it!  I found that above all, in life and on here, I wanted to be HONEST.  I want to be known as someone who has integrity and can tell you the truth, even when it is hard.  I want to raise my daughter’s to be that way as well!  And so, as I envision branching out into other aspects of my life, I want to maintain that goal.

We rounded out our trip with a fun day at World of Coca Cola!  If you have never been, make it a point when you are in Atlanta!  The place is a mecca of History, imagination, education and fun!  I even stood thisclose to the vault that holds the actual formula to Coca Cola!  I was impressed by the technology that they used to enhance the story and learned more about a company that is striving to maintain it’s history as it leads the way into the future!

This is a day trip because you will not see it all in one trip!  Try to mix your own formula, be enthralled by the amazing memorabilia and laugh at the theories and substitutes people have come up with over the years to debunk the fantasticness that is Coca Cola!

And finally, at the end of this very long post that I hope you read every word of, take a few moments to learn about the very important initiative, LivePositively.com that Coca Cola is pouring their hearts and souls into!  “To Live Positivly” all you have to do is find your inner optimist.”  Learn all about the program, vote for your favorite park that you would like to see Coca Cola help revitalize, see who will carry the Olympic Torch, check out RecycleBank and how Coca Cola is trying to use more natural, recycled materials and even understand how they are making labels easier for every day consumers!

This was truly an amazing, once in a life time trip and I, from the bottom of my heart, thank Coca Cola for the invitation.  Impressed that they never market to kids under 12 and leave soda drinking decisions totally up to the parents, amazed that employees can sit in for each other at meetings so they never miss a child’s play and excited about the research and science you put into making sure you have a myriad of products that fit every lifestyle, I learned more about you AND ME on this trip!

And I think you.
