Rock ‘N Learn ‘Read Along Stories Review!’ *2011 GW Sponsor*

With Kindergarten upon us, we know that it is time to start really working with Katie on her sight words and the flow of reading. That is why I was so ecstatic to review Rock ‘N Learn’s Read Along Stories!

Even though the DVD is written on a second grade level and Katie, Sarah, and Megan are too young to really take full advantage of what it has to offer, it is still a vibrant, musical, attention grabbing video!  And it is teaching my girls, especially Katie who is showing an interest in reading, that there are letters in words and that words together tell a story.

While watching it with her, I talk to her about the words she does know, ie: will, and, go, and then explain to her that the words lighting up are the ones they are saying.  She always wants to watch it again and have me explain the words to her again.

Sarah loves the classic stories of  The Three Little Pigs, The Ugly Duckling, Jack and the Beanstalk, and The Little Red Hen!  She sits staring and reacting as a three yer old should!

After each story, which is presented with the follow along words, a song reviewing the story and introducing even more difficult words plays.  The girls love to sing and dance but still need a few years to fully appreciate the lesson!

But a second grader and beyond will! Check out this clip of the video:

Yet again, Rock ‘N Learn and their variety of amazing learning DVD’s, CD’s and books have impressed me!  Even when  I choose a product beyond my kids skill level, the animation and creativity holds their attention and teaches them something anyway!  That is proven by my 1 year old walking around saying, “Fe Fe Fum” {a take on Fe Fi Fo Fum from the giant in Jack and the Beanstalk}, and then laughing hysterically.

No wonder it won the Creative Child DVD of the Year and the Mom’s Best DVD Award!

If you have a first grader or beyond, the Read Along Stories DVD is a true necessity to your educational DVD collection!  Especially if you have a visual learner!

We received the “Getting Ready For Kindergarten” DVD about a week ago!  From the moment I popped it into the DVD player, my girls were hooked!  They met Joey and Jill and followed them through the morning routine of getting ready for school – including a detailed explanation of how to tie their  shoes and make their bed!  What Mom does not want those skills learned?

Songs and easy to remember instruction led them through using the rest room, drawing themselves, writing their letters – upper and lower case – and learning their left from their right.  They learn shapes, patterns, size comparisons, and even asking permission and walking in a line!

All skills that will be needed in Kindergarten.  And all skills that my kids are already using today.  This DVD has quickly become the number one requested DVD during family TV time every day.  Yes, I have now seen it seven times.  And every time, I am amazed at yet another skill, or song, or understanding my girls learn.  Now Sarah says, almost daily, “Katie is going to Kindergarten and I will go next year.”  In fact, the other day, Katie said she wanted to go to Kindergarten instead of preschool.  I am not ready for her to go – by any means – but it does help knowing she will not be scared and unprepared!
