47 Things You Did Not Know About Me

Today I mark the beginning of my 47th year! So much has changed in my life and yet, so much more has stayed the same. As always, I am on my knees in grateful prayer for my life. There are very few things I would change about it. The things I would are minor… like ‘I wish my house were cleaner’ minor. I feel stronger, freer, clearer and more confident than I ever have before. And though I still suffer from certain insecurities, I am truly happy that I have been able to maintain a great life for the girls. With the new experience of running ADIM Media as well as ADayinMotherhood, it has been the busiest year by far.  My readers and clients continue to impress and humble me with their kindness! So, happy 47th to ME!

As a fun celebration, here are 47 things you did not know about me!

I was once ranked as a USTA tennis player.

I secretly love the smell of gas.  Like… love it…

I tell people I am allergic to shellfish ’cause it looks icky’, but really I don’t know if I am or am not.

I was a junior high school school cheerleader.  It was an awesome experience!

I used to be a competitive diver until I failed a math class and got taken out to improve my grades.

When I hug my kids, I inhale their scent through their heads and well up at the best scent ever. Even if they are sweaty.

I am really, really… like, really bad at relationships with men.

I am secretly glad I did not have boys. Not because I don’t ADORE little boys, and cried a little when I realized I would not have one, but because I just wanted girls!

I am addicted to Candy Crush, but mainly because I want to beat my brother at it.

I am secretly happy when my 13 year old smarts off at me. She reminds me so much of me.

I wish I could homeschool. I hate when my kids leave me for any reason. But, I have to work and can’t handle both.

I have written a children’s book called ‘Nina Meets a Friend.’ I wrote it in 4th grade!

I had a piece published in a literary magazine when I was younger and I wish to God I still had a copy!

I quit CrossFit because my body was sore all the time. But I wish I had not and I wish I were brave enough to go back.

I wish I owned a Starbucks. ‘Cause it would be cheaper, y’all!

I have written three books and have another one almost done but am afraid to publish them. Plus, I don’t know where to start :) And I can’t find the first three in any of my computers. Technology – 3, Lori – 0.

My first job out of college was an oil and gas loan underwriter for a bank.

The first celebrity I met was Cindy Lauper, at age 12, as she got on her tour bus after a concert. She has really soft, tiny hands.

If I could figure out how to do it without uprooting my kids, I would live in the heart of New York City.

Being a single mom is the one thing I arrogantly think I am doing well in my life. It’s like I was meant for it.

I am a hopeless romantic even though I have never been romanticized.

I can read an entire book in one sitting.

I can not stop watching Gilmore Girls. I am seriously hooked.

My obsession with my dogs is borderline crazy.

Because of my obsession, I have fostered over 50 dogs in the last two years. There seems to be no end in sight.

I was first chair as a clarinetist in junior high and high school!

I spent months at summer camp as a child and loved it! Wimberly, Texas, Rocky River Ranch!!

I love to ride horses.  My horse obsession was with a paint named Thunder at summer camp!

I once dated a man 27 years my senior. For 7 years. (See previous BAD at relationships comment)

I have flown a glider. Ridden in AND flown one!

I think most reality shows are the death of society. Like… really…

I am OBSESSED with football! JJ WATT baybee!

I was adopted when I was 8. But you all knew that ’cause you follow me on Facebook, right?

I was in marching band in high school. And I loved it!

I set my alarm for 5, 5:15, 5:30, 5:45, 6, and 6:15. But I get up between 4 and 5. And listen to them go off every 15 minutes.

I HATE fixing my hair! Like… hate it!! Hence the mom ponytail when I can get away with it. Which is often.

Being a blogger, writer, business owner is more of a dream come true than I would like to admit.

I really, really want to be in love.

I fear, daily, that I will fail at my life.

9 times out of 10, I am just hoping you like me!

Reconnecting with my birth brothers is the single most exciting thing that happened to me this year! After 35 years… it was a real blessing!

My favorite movie, and book, of ALL time is Gone With the Wind and I have already planned a marathon movie night when my girls are old enough to see it!

My secret second favorite movie is Girls Just Wanna Have Fun…  yea, you got it out of me!

I used to have a poster of Michael Jackson on my wall. Every night before bed, I would tie my pillowcase around my head and marry him. I’m old y’all…  LOL

I have no favorite movie star crush, no obsession with music and no ‘I would DIE to meet’ person. Except Ellen. I would melt into a puddle… seriously…

I never want my girls to move out of my home. Like… ever.

It is really hard to find 47 things about yourself!
